Jaffe vs Pachter

Jaffe seems to be saying, "Yes, PS3 is too expensive but um, can we talk about something else please?" Which is odd when the talk is about the recession!
Gertsman looks like a embarassing gestalt of all US gaming journalists in one sinister entity.

Would have been far more balanced if there were 3 game producers in there talking about the entire industrial landscape than just one (unofficially) affiliated with one platform (although doing it they way they have immediately allows biased viewers to pick a side without worrying about balance, of course). Throw in a Bungie producer and maybe someone from EA or Ubisoft instead. And I saw far less confrontational behaviour than this topic is hoping to imply. Hmm. Deliberately leading titles to set reader expectations eh? I wonder where that idea came from!
Jaffe mades some excellent points about videogames and industrial positioning in the second half. But then, out of the four of them, he's the only one that actually works inside the industry he's talking about (I'm certain that there's plenty of gamers out there who would actually hold that against him though). Keighly and Gerstman are onlookers and Pachter is a market analyst. I think all of them are very good actually, but only one of them is in a position to talk from experience rather than speculation. Not a very balanced panel at all in that respect.
Also, as amazing as this might sound, not EVERYONE has as much emotional investment in perpetuating console warz as vocal gamers do. Some are insightful enough, have seen enough generations of hardware and have a more reasoned set of priorities than perpetuating a masturbatory allegiance over a box of circuits. This is, typically, based on a broader experience than buying a console and playing some games on it. Crazy notion, I know. You either get it or you don't.

Surprised that he's (Pachter) changed his long term prediction at this stage. Expected him to stick with it come hell and high water.

Why would Gerstmann get invited to anything...?

Pachter says that the price of a game that "sucks" will drop quickly, games that are "really good" remain full price for longer... (@ ~53 minutes)

I have another theory. Games that sell well for long periods of time stay at high prices for longer. Sometimes that's games which are good, sometimes that's just games which are popular.
There are plenty of top notch games that had their prices slashed to hell and back because they simply weren't selling... and vice versa.

Pachter has obviously never visited Germany.
