I feel like i have to clarify this. i recommended the sennheiser rs 180 or rs 170 headPHONES to someone a while ago saying that i prefer those compared to the sony mdr ds6500.
first things first. they´re all good products.
i forgot who it was but the guy was actually looking for a wireless headset for use on 360 AND ps3 and i recommended the sennheisers and an in ear headset in combination for the best results in sound quality because i think the dedicated wireless headsets on the market aren´that great sounding. as dedicated headests i would still recommended the astros a 40 or a 30´s combined with the mix amp. expensive but totally worth it imo...but those have A LOT of wires.
i now have a pair of the sonys here again and i must say i prefer them. i really wonder how this changed because i tested them before for quite some time and wasn´t that impressed. the first time i had them i returned them after a while because i thought they lacked bass - and yeah....they kind of do compared to the sennheisers - but overall, they sound pretty well balanced i must say. i tried them out for a while again now. you must check out the settings on the receiver a little to really find the best sound. i did that before too of course but i believe i just didn´t give the phones (and my ears) enough time. i compared too much back then and then initially prefered the sennheisers because they have a little more punch. after long periods of use i prefer the sound of the sonys though. can´t really say what it is but they´re just well balanced and a pleasure to use. they have a great build quality and are much easier to use than the sennheisers too. they turn off automatically when you put them back on the receiver for example. they also have a little wheel for volume controll instead of buttons - you accidentally turn off the sennheisers all the time because of the flawed button placement. the promised 20 hours battery life is 100% true. they never died on me. the sennheisers are great in that department too though.
i know, many wont even consider buying wireless and i shared that opinion for ages but i think the sennheisers and sony headphones actually sound both just great without all the wires in the way. i really do prefer the sony phones now. they are more user friendly and it´s a better thought out product. sleek, practical design and good sound.
just felt the need to share this update...sorry for typos and shit english, just hammered this straight into the forums.
