It's one thing to deliver a show full of games and I give MS kudos of doing just that, considering how bad E3 can be for non-gaming related presentations, but it's another thing entirely a show full of good to amazing games and MS fell short of that tonight for me.
There was variety I'll give them that but a lot I just couldn't care less for.
Ryse - Looked like every Cryek game I've seen and/or played, very pretty but boring. Far too may QTE's in basic combat. Honestly a QTE to knock someone off a ledge? Fuck off Crytek.
Stuff I ddn't care for because they're just not my thing - Crimson Dragoon, Forza 5, Killer Instinct
Quantum Break - Disappointment of the show. I'm no more excited for this than I was after the first trailer at the X1 reveal, it looks like an interesting premise but that's all we have to go on.
Sunset Overdrive - I don't get Insomniac, they wanted to go multiplatform to get their games out to a wider audience but now they sign up to develop exclusively for X1? Ok. They changed the cool cartoony look of Overstrike for the boring gritty Fuse because the kids don't like cartoony games these days, now they rock up with a new cartoony shooter for the X1? It's nice to see a shooter with a different visual style but there's not enoguh to go on.
Minecraft - *shrugs*
Witcher 3 - Looked amazing, it's really made me want to start Witcher 2 on 360. Impressed.
Dark Souls 2 - The trailer screamed aiming for the mainstream, not impressed, more concerned about it than anything now.
MGSV - A good trailer but me and MG never get along, unless it's made by Platinum. Felt like a rebuttal to Sony trotting out Bungie at the PS4 reveal "hey MS we've got your Bungie!!" "....yeah? Well.....we've got Metal Gear!!"
Battlefield 4 - Blew CoD Dog out of the water, personally I enjoy BF more for the multiplayer but the SP seems to be shaping up nicely, certainly better than the BF3 SP. Impressed.
Project Spark - The highlight of the show, MS answer to LBP? Who's to say? I prefer LBP art style but this seemed way more accessible and that is a very good thing. Lots of potential. Impressed.
Halo - Nice teaser, was thinking it was going to be a Star Wars game until the reveal, not particularly excited for a new Halo though at this point.
D4 - Not enough to go on.
Dead Rising 3 - Looked ok, more serious than DR2, not sure if that's a good thing yet.
Below - Not enough to go on, nice to see that MS hasn't totally abandoned indies, nice plug for State of Decay earlier in the evening lol.
Titanfall - Certainly wasn't as pretty as Ryse or Forza but it looked way more fun than both to me, gameplay looked really smooth with few interesting mechanics and depth, most importantly it just looked like a fun game. Would I buy an X1 for it? Maybe if it wasn't actually coming to 360 also (my stream cut off before the end, did they announce it was coming to 360 also?)
Overall, based solely on the games, I give the show a 6/10,
Four games impressed, two were multi-platforms, I'm not seeing enough reasons to buy an X1 yet, if ever.
