   Stephen King has announced the "Dark Tower" Movie. This is Stephen King's Magnum Opus of 7 Books. For those not in the Know, all of Stephen King's books, ALL of them, tie into the Dark Tower in some way. They are now attempting to make a movie of it, details are here:

   As a HUGE Stephen King fan, I am very concerned with how this Grand Opus will be handled.

   The thing that of course followed the logical conclusion in my mind, was the potential for a Movie tie-in game. This also concerns me very much. We all know that Movie tie-in games tend to suck, suck really bad. I could see Sega or Buddha forbid, Activision. I would like to see maybe Rock Star do it? Seeing how they have done RDR, I have a feeling they would not want to venture down that path again, but who knows, one can wish?

   So what would you like to see in a Stephen King, "Dark Tower" game? Thinnies? Zombies? Crimson King? Eddie? Giant Crabs? Mechanical Bear?
   Protecting the Beams? 19? All the Above?

   I was interested in the film back when JJ Abrahms from Lost was supposed to be involved, now, I'm not so sure.

   I think it'd make a better animated series. Get the Afro Samurai guys to do it, the style would work really well and with animation you don't have to worry about the kid playing Jake being in his early 20's by the time they're done pretending he's 13 a la Harry Potter.

   As for a game, it could work. Look at Metro 2033, its source is a book and they did a really good job of translating the story over while at the same time adding in enough action sequences to make a decent FPS out of it without making it seem forced or hammered in for the sake of it as many movie games do.

   90% of Kings works translated to screen have sucked abominable ass. Let's hope that The Dark Tower makes the 10% of passable. Maybe even the 1% of good.

   Ok, I just read that press release.

   Very Fucking ambitious. Sounds like they're going to plow a fuck load of cash into this. They're going to pretty much have to or it'll flop like a eunuch's cock.

   I can totally see this failing though. They'll get halfway through the 1st tv series, ratings will be disappointing and they'll cancel the rest, or reduce the budget so much they won't be able to do it properly.

   I'll be stunned if they make it through all 3 films and however many tv series.

   I've been reading them over the summer, i've read the first 3 just taking a little breather from the series at the moment.....

   No, they should not make a Dark Tower game. Are you a mad man? ;)

   ONLY if they created a whole new narrative/side story set either in Roland's youth or whilst chasing the man in black before the first book, could this work. Of which of course it wouldn't.

   The Night Angel trilogy, now that would make good movies and games!
