I posted this in the comments section of the Itagaki: Japanse Games Industry is Dying article:
"Being of Japanese descent myself, I find theevilaires’ racist comments deeply offensive. I don’t mind flamewars between console fanboys and a bit of personal namecalling accompanying it, but theevilaires is going way too far now.
I hope 24/7 does (or already did do) something about this, because it’s one thing to allow users a huge degree of freedom in the comments section, but it’s another thing entirely to allow racist fanatics to misuse that freedom to post hateful and shocking comments like theevilaires just did."
There was no reaction from any of the VG24/7 crew so I thought it might be a good idea to start a discussion about this in the forum section. the way I understand it, is that in terms of moderating comments VG24/7 is very 'hands off', which is commendable even if it sometimes leads to vile remarks between fanboys of different consoles or PC. However, should the kind of blatant racism theevilaires posted in that particular article be allowed? Isn't that going way too far? Shouldn't some kind of line be drawn when a racist remark isn't even thinly veiled, but all-out over the top offensive as in theevilaires' remark?
What does everyone think of this? Should VG24/7 draw a line somewhere, or should this kind of thing be allowed no matter how offensive and shocking?
