A couple of things here.
First up an ignore feature is a bad idea and will be bad for the website. It is going to be a branded weapon of choice amoung younger posters and fan boys and used to a point of half of the site ignoring the other half of the site. As a result very little posting in the comments will be done.
If you don't like someone, don't read their posts. Simple as that. No one is forcing anyone else to read or respond to people they don't like. People that cry about an ignore feature are, it seems to me, the very example of what I am talking about. A real " whatch this, this will fix him! I will ignore that sob" Of course ignoring him will not stop him from posting. And will not inform him that such and such a number of people have him on ignore. Or who they are. But over time of course they may find out.
I can see Mike telling the rest of us to tell Tea that "blagh blagh blagh" or whatever.
The end result is that less people will post, and who is ignoring who will become the central focal point of said posts.
Not to mention, what is to stop a shatner type from simply making a new handle or account to post and "say this or that" to people that have his "Main" account on ignore?
Forget ignore, if the site becomes infected witha shatner type, ban him. Otherwise live and let live.
As for swearing, I agree too much of it.
Look there are a lot of levels of swearing and foul language. From PG-pg13 to R and beyond. But last I looked there wasn't an age restriction at the websites door.
Personialy I don't have a problem with most swearing. I draw the line with F-word. Or female/male equipment. I feel it lowers the inteligance of the poster and lessens the importance of what is being posted. The trouble is eveyone is going to have their own level of acceptablity. The reality is that Patrick runs the site and can allow what he wants.
But, ever watch highschool kids? Its Fthis and Fthat. They are doing it to impress each other and they think it makes them semm more mature. So if you wanna come off as if your the same level as a highschool kid .. knock yourself out ;)
Just my two cents.
