Wrong. Xbox is 256 bits. Xbox was known for having better graphics than the PS2 because of this. Gamecube and Dreamcast both had 128 as well. The PS1 was 96 bit I believe.

I miss bits :( A man knew where he stood with bits.

You can keep your new-fangled 'resolutions' and 'frame rates', damn it.

Ps2 was 64 (or 128 I don't remember), while Xbox was 32 iirc, Dreamcast was 128 bit.. Ps3 is 128 bit.

since PS1/N64 generation it doesn't matter anymore, and it's all about those flops and cores now.

PS2 = 128 bit era
Xbox = 128 bit era

PS3 = HD era
Xbox 360 = HD era
There is no specific bit era for them, because each of them are different. some use core processors, some just 729 MHZ Power PC

Next generation of consoles will be multithreaded 64-bit

Does anyone know how "bits" currently relate to this generation of gaming consoles in comparison to the past systems/generations? They used to double every generation, and were quite a well known selling point (so much so that N64 put it in it's name), just wondering what happened with that.

I'm ignorant on the subject and just curious - thanks!

NES = 8bit
SNES/Genesis = 16bit
PS1 = 32bit
N64 = 64bit
PS2 = ?
PS3 = ?
Xbox = ?
X360 = ?
