"you mostly just get slashers and pukers in DS 3."

Maybe in the first half but once you get to the planet you get a lot more variety. I had just beaten Dead Space 2 a week prior to DS3 and I don't remember the pukers if they were there they weren't as interesting or as challenging as they are in Dead Space 3. Visceral had really revamped all of the AI for the enemies. The enemies runs going from bi-ped to quadruped or moving in a way that when you shoot they dodge it.

"just a slightly reskinned tripod"

I could put the tripod down in Dead Space 2 in 5 mins on Veteran with a plasma cutter. Those were the most uninteresting enemies I have ever seen in Dead SPace 2 and Visceral for Dead SPace 2 would just add more of them for variety. Where the snow beast was new and they put you in 3 vastly different environments so you had to strategize on how to defeat him.

Every one of my co-workers,friends and family that have played it have all said it is one of the best of the series. I had played the original a month ago and I just can't get back into it with Dead Space 2 and now the 3rd.

@PhoenixBlight: Twitchers come from DS 1 and pukers come from DS 2. Feeders are a reskin of the pack from DS 2 too, albeit they do have an interesting stealth element now, in a couple of the levels anyway. Fodder is the only genuinely new enemy as far as I can see, and the swarm can now reanimate bodies.

Let's compare that with DS 2. You had the introduction of pukers, pack, crawlers, tripods, cysts (I think?), and stalkers. You also had the spitting tentacle dudes I guess. That was a LOT of variety by comparison, and anyway, you mostly just get slashers and pukers in DS 3.

You also mentioned bosses. The first boss in DS 3 is just a slightly reskinned tripod, and there's no variety between the three encounters you have with him. In DS 2, all three encounters with that tripod dude are different. You also fight a hivemind from DS 1, (which admittedly has the interesting stomach thing going on), and that final boss which was shit.

Well, as I tried to say in the beginning, I'm not trying to change your mind or anything, or say that you're wrong. It's opinion, so of course that'd be crazy. However, it's interesting for me that whereas the critics were cold on DS 1, I found that a lot of forumites loved it as I did. Now it seems to be the other way around, with Giant Bomb and EG coming to the same conclusion as me, and a lot of forumites thinking it's "awesome".

I really don't get it...

Yeah, thats why i made the flame thrower attach with a line gun to burn and cut waves down. It makes i easier but I often have to switch to a shotgun for close range crowd control. They really did a lot right and the graphics are some of the best I have seen from 3rd party offerings. I really like the work Visceral does very commendable

@Lex

THe game makes the enemies harder to kill and it also drops more enemies on top of you which makes the game that much harder at least for me it did.

I'm still playing but so far I think its fantastic. I am doing a solo run but I have had friends drop in and out a few times. And, personally I feel its the best of the 4 (im including extraction).

Currently playing on PS3 and the disappearing bodies things happens there too. I don't particularly mind thanks to my flame thrower popping the items out as they flood in. The little decaded guys are creepy as shit having 8 of them run at me at a time not cool at all.

As for everything else they pretty much made a definitive dead space to me. I suggest instead of people doing co-op first do solo its much more challenging taking them on by yourself and not having someone cover you. But, knowing your not alone helps amplify the atmosphere to me.

I am 30+ years old. You clearly were playing on Normal because the guns I used throughout Veteran was my plasma cutter and a rivet gun much like the gun used in previous games.

"Basically no new enemies"

Uh huh. Did you even play the game there were at least 4 new type of enemies. Feeders,Fodder, twitchers and Pukers. Not to mention the bosses which Dead SPace 2 practically had none except the end boss.

I am not sure who you were playing with but I doubt it was with friends because I played with at least 3 different friends and family members and I had an enjoyable experience throughout. I am even attempting pure survival mode right now and I am loving it.

Noodlemanny, I'm not shitting on your opinion here, if you like the game that much I'm happy for you, and that's totally cool. But I thought that this game was easily and by far the worst game of the series. The first was possibly my favorite game of this generation, the second was pretty good, but this one?

Basically no new enemies. 90% of encounters are populated by two or three types only. Enemies come in waves and waves, which I hate not because it's difficult, but because it's boring. EVERY time, you flip a switch or fix something and the room fills up with necros. Predictable and boring.

The iconic Line gun and Plasma cutter are worthless. Two or three shots with a powerful line gun to take out a necro limb? Nonsense. And while you're doing that, three or four others have gotten in close to you.

The story was absolute nonsense, compared to the first two. The climax was ridiculously over the top, and not in the good way. The suits were almost purely cosmetic. The environments were extremely samey and uninteresting. The "seamless drop-in drop-out" Co-Op is awful, and NOT seamless, NOT appropriate to Dead Space (your partner has to wait while you check out all of the boxes and look around for loot - boring for THEM! and then they drop out, causing you to have to replay the fucking level) and not necessary as far as I can tell.

Also, 2 weapons with two firing modes each is not as good as 4 weapons with two firing modes each. I will say this for it, the puzzles and engineering problems were pretty satisfying... Otherwise, this game is the lowest point in the series. It's the first game in a long LONG time that has disappointed me this much.

PLEASE PLEASE stop ramming online/multi-player into games at the expense of the experience. PLEASE! Also, sorry for the rant, this game and the topic of micro-transactions are the first things to get me this riled up in years.

"But of course there are other gripes. Mainly the fact, from a technical perspective, that enemies disappear after you kill a couple more. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that they take their resources with them... "

That is the limitation of the amount of Ram for the system. The system is not going to remember every single necromorph you have killed throughout the entire area. Also you can always use kinesis to rip the limbs to shoot at dead bodies. I do this all the time.

I agree with you though that is by far the best of the series though I enjoyed Dead Space 2 more than the original because the original was just too cramped and didn't have a variety of environments.

There's almost definitely a similar post somewhere but I can't be arsed to find it and I wanna start a new one anyways.
Count on there being ***Spoilers***

So having literally just completed Dead Space 3 (on the second hardest standard difficulty) I must say, I'm almost tempted to say its that best of the three, with the second being good but the weaker of the three. In terms of story line and character progression it certainly blows the original Dead Space not only out of the water but out of the atmosphere. Its also much more engaging than Dead Space 2. At the end you've develop a real connection to the three main Issac, Ellie and John although I didn't play though in Co-op so I never really saw a great deal of John Carver. I'm just speculating that you give a shit about John from reviews.
Then the story line gives an overwhelming feeling of fighting for something much bigger than the characters. You get a great feeling of the importance and the scale of the task your trying to achieve. Although at the beginning these traits are not as strong. When your in space floating above the planet it can feel like your a little aimless but towards the end when your running though the alien 'machine' there is a very tangible sense of intense urgency. Your on the edge of your seat at the end. Or at least I was.

The atmosphere is also great, perhaps not as good as Dead Space 1 but there kinda intrinsically different. Dead Space 1 was more scary, every neco had the capacity to make you jump and that is actually still in Dead Space 3 but a little more watered down I s'pose. But Dead Space 3 has a larger scale, there's simply more necos to kill so each individual one isn't as much of a threat. But your certainly apprehensive of the inevitable attack of the mutated undead throughout. The human to human conflict is a bit 'meh' but makes sense within the story.

There is certainly enough variation of enemies to keep you occupied through the campaign. When you think you've seen them all they bring either a whole new contender or bring another old friend back into the fray. You keep getting new classes of enemies right to the end. One thing I would say is that this game did get on my tits a few times, when wave upon wave of enemies kept coming it can get a little tiresome. I did find myself getting rather aggravated multiple times during my play-through, more than once shouting at my screen in exasperation. Like getting through an entire wave to get killed by the last guy and have to do the whole thing all over again. It does a little Dragon Age 2 on your ass a couple of times but nothing too horrific.

But of course there are other gripes. Mainly the fact, from a technical perspective, that enemies disappear after you kill a couple more. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that they take their resources with them... You get resources from killed enemies by hitting them again after their dead but you don't want to waste good ammo on the already dead and don't have time to stamp them before another living contestant starts eating your face off. So that's a bit of a kick in the teeth. I played this on the 360 so maybe this isn't the case on PC. It especially annoying since i don't remember this being a problems on either of the previous titles. Anyway there's so much resources anyway, losing out on a few drops will most probably make no difference.

I know I haven't covered everything I could talk about but for one can't be bothered and secondly I can't really remember everything as of now. But anyway all in all I think Dead Space 3 is an incredibly solid game. It's certainly not for the light hearted and although may be a little easier than you might want it certainly doesn't come across as being easy as your getting hammered by multiple different enemies of different classes. I'll be putting this game and the series in a special part of my brain reserved for the very best. It's not perfect but what is and it takes a little time to pick up and even longer to get really immersive but if you can stick with it, all the way to the end, I'd wager you'll at least say a couple of good things about it. It certainly is something of a strenuous journey if played on harder difficulties.
I also imagine that if you could get ahold of a reliable someone who would be willing to devote something like 12 to 20 hours of their life to a game the co-op could be really good, letting you get to know carver looks to be interesting. But course I don't know that.
