Not really, I would say that if it weren't for the end that we saw of 3. It had an ethical approach to it with the end justifies the means. Sure he killed people along the way but we never looked at Kratos as a saint now did we? He was always a killer before the ashes and after.

His progression is still pretty solid once you put the whole story together. Which is why I personally feel a connection to the character now. I didn't feel it before but now I do.

@lex, but that the thing. He's not trying to redeem himself. He's just going on a murderous rampage.

The moment he started killing innocent people his entire character progression was made null and void.

I was in the middle of playing the saga but now I am going to do it after I get Ascension. Start from Ascension and go through. Kratos gives me a since of comfort now.... bathed in blood, vengeance and sorrow

i played all the gow games, the psp games too and i am replaying them right now. i bought the "GOW SAGA". didn´t know that the us vesion runs on an european console but it does! .man, best deal ever. the games look gorgeous in hd. i started with GOW 2 though. was the one that was stuck in my head the most but not the details...i love it. it´s a masterpiece, flawless game design really. in hd it looks just great. timeless design.
i cannot wait for ascension, last of us and sly cooper....right now i am playing ni no kuni too. if the year continues like this for sonys machine, i am a very very happy gamer indeed.

that trailer is spot on!

Also, the sympathy goes in for how far it can drive you to redeem yourself and avenge what was once lost to you. You don't have to literally be supercharged by gods to feel a connection to a story. It's like saying you can't sympathize with batman's trial because he's a billionaire who fights super villain's.

You didn't play chains of Olympus or Ghost of Sparta did you Michael? Also, I have to admit there is more depth to his vengeance then I even gave it cred for. GoW1 was taking out on Ares what he made him do to his family. GoW2 was him trying to rebuild what he lost as a Solider/Man to rebuild his nation only to watch it get destroyed again in front of him. GoW3 led us to trust in another deity only to be betrayed at the start.

Chains of Olympus gave us a glimpse at how Kratos felt about leaving his Daughter to complete his mission. Ghost of Sparta his cursed destiny showing he never had a choice in the matter.

Now we have Ascension which gives us more of his pain and dealing with his sins.

I can't agree with you on this one with it being hollow. Before I actually let go of the rage and violence I would have agreed. But, now I actually see everything for what it is. Now, I give credit for where credit is due

Problem is, after the first game (and I'll give that one full credit for setting up a compelling tragedy story) he just kept doing it for the lulz. The character has no depth beyond. "You killed my family. I'm angry now, so I'm going to get super powers and kick all yours asses now."

Its an incredibly thin premise, and I sure as hell don't understand how being a Titan destroying demigod is relatable. Sure, we all fear the loss of family and the effect it could have on us as people, but Kratos' expression of that idea barely raises above the level of basic comic book villainy. You never get inside his head, there's no nuance to his identity or his personality. It's just... kill, kill, kill.

It was a nice idea, but now it's just a contrived revenge story with absolutely no understanding over the mythology their aping. Its no less inspired than the fifthy bazillion stop motion survival movies that used to be popular decades ago.

I just didn't think I originally connected with Kratos. I thought it was all about the blood lust and rage. That I had been on his journey to right the wrong the gods had committed. I was so wrong.....

I forgot what invoked the reason for the journey. I forgot why I was playing as the Ghost of Sparta due to the power we obtained together. I forgot what it meant that time we had to push away our daughters spirit to do what was our duty. To remove the true happiness felt through a family.

After watching this trailer several times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aDhfTGkLTg I realized Kratos and I do have a genuine connection. That watching your daughters smile and joy turn to ashes. Your Queen becoming nothing more then the symbol you pronounced your love through. Your kingdom shattered across the plains..... This all brought out the realization that I actually do like Kratos as a character.

That I do sympathize with what the gods made him into. I may have been bashing Sony's advertisements over the years but recently I feel that they are doing a great job of making me realize exactly why I liked to play their games. This gen I feel Sony has truely laid foundation for their brand as a gaming platform. A lot of hiccups but more lessons learned then anything else. It feels like This gen was equivalent to Nintendos N64/GCN For Sony.

damn commercial mad me feel for that fool Kratos.....
