Weel, I'm playing as much as I can in my college break, after that it will be the suffering of waiting weekends to play something at all, because I work all day long and at night go to college in another city and get roughly 7 hours of the day left, wich I use to do something called sleep :)

I have a feeling I'm not going to buy a PS4 straight out of the gate, and the Steambox will be a long time coming, so like a squirrel, I'm just going to keep going through my stockpile of PS3 and Wii games and be satisfied with that until I run out sometime in mid to late 2014.

I here you T.G.! So many games left undone or untouched. I took my time gasping at the Uncharted2 graphics because I'm the type of guy who loves to stop and looking around in games. But then, I didn't finshed it. UC3 is still untouched. On the other hand I blasted through Halo4 on heroic just to see the end in one night. Whole game left me disappointed btw.

Then there are games I played through many times. I just don't know. More time would definitely help but sometimes the games don't click on me. I think it's kind of a mood thing ...

Oh yeah, and then there are the handhelds and tablets to keep me busy, sooo ....

Steam fall and winter sales make my back log even worse. Not to mention Humble Bundles..."Oooo, I forgot about that game, better get it while it's cheap."

Looking at my list: COD:BO2, Homefront, Metro2033, Darksiders, Darksiders II, Saints Row the Third, Gears of War 3 (had since launch still in wrapper), Assassin's Creed Brotherhood/Revelations/3, Far Cry 3. These are all games I own and haven't had a chance to play yet.

I don't want to start Far Cry 3 until I knock some of the other shorter games off my list. I have a feeling I'll put a lot of time into it.

I bet more than half of my game playing time last year was spent on Skyrim and Gran Turismo 5. Then I played through ME1&2 again before ME3 which was a sizable chunk of time. Then finished off the year with Borderlands 2 and Halo 4.

I didn't play a lot of games last year, but the ones I did play, I put a lot of time into. I still managed to play some good games like Max Payne 3. I also took a couple weeks to read all 5 Song of Ice and Fire books.

Now I'm playing Assassin's Creed 2 on the PC, though I've had it for PS3 since launch. My wife has played them all though. Been playing a bit of FTL (super addicting). Planetside 2 gets me when I want to just go and shoot some peeps. And a bit of Borderlands 2 with my wife (PS3 LAN) when she has the time.

Luckily, there aren't a lot of games I'm looking forward to in 2013. Just GTA5, Crysis 3, Shadowrun, BioShock Infinite, and Last of Us.

I tend to like the platforming, but I know what it's like when some element that doesn't bother other people really gets on your tits. Speaking of Diablo III/Torchlight/Guild Wars, they're all games I really wanna play, but am kinda waiting for a Steambox to pop into existence, because the whole gaming PC headache frustrates me.

I know I like it, because I used to play on my friends' PCs, but the set-up, the maintenance, the unsightliness of the box, the price-hunting and trade-offs in power and cost...

They're all minor issues that I guess I could get around, but they're just enough of a barrier to entry to keep me away from my PC gaming destiny.

It kills me, because I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer, but I can't get at some of the finest games ever made. It's like if you swear off Nintendo, and straight away you're locked out of the some of the all-time greats. That's why I'm so conflicted about the Wii U too...

Shit, sorry, it's late here and I'm rambling...

TG, I absulutly loved the combat in DSII. The tuff parts were the seemingly blind leaps of faith in the games "Platform" engine. The jumps got very frustraiting. The idea of ok, Now Where Do I go? I hate that in games. Too gamey if that makes sense.

I prefer games like DiabloIII/Torchlight/Rift/Guild Wars where I don't have to do too much stuff like Platforming(if I wanna platform I will play Mario/Rayman).

I just don't have the patients for games that frustrait me. There is always something else to play.

I usually like to play games for the experience and story (so I finish games pretty fast), but if it's something really special, I love to find everything out, get all the weapons/items, max everything out and so on. And that's time consuming.

In week-ends I can end up spending even 5 hours per day, but the rest of the week is pretty much dry of gaming sessions. Marathons are a guilty pleasure of mine aswell :P.

My backlog is huge aswell, so that kinda makes me unmotivated to play everything thoroughly, or get brand new games. I've yet to play everything I want, like the Mass Effect trilogy(so you're not alone TEA :P), Demon's and Dark Souls, Batman AA and AC, Vanquish and Dragon's Dogma. And now with Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, GTA V and GoW Ascension I can see this backlog getting even bigger.

Time and money are killing me, I swear.

@lex and possibly @ALL, I have exams everyday except Mondays, one for each subject, extra courses after school and some extending until night-time. Although, whenever I come home I enjoy playing games even for... 3 hours? i normally get home at 4pm (School here goes to 1pm and extra courses are about 2 hours each, except my English course which takes about 4 hours) then I get home, study for an hour IF I didn't already study in the free hour I have between normal class and extra, then I hop into my console or gaming PC and play the heck out of it. Weekends are even better: 24/2 gaming. Call me an addict, I know I am, I love gaming. I also love reading, watching anime and all sorts of joyful things in modern life. To do most each day, I try sometimes to do two things at the same time, which I succeed somehow, or stay awake a bit more, some times I'm just not tired, and it doesn't affect at all the next day's routine.

But this is just me. If you have trouble doing multiple things at the same time and can't stay awake for too long then save your gaming needs when you truly have the time. It is way better than just messing up your professional life schedules and compromising even more your gamer routine. Eventually you will be able to find extra time.

Now on crazy Sci-Fi theories: we might find a hospitable planet that a day takes 60 hours or even more... Or biology might be able to cross our DNA with turtles and we can life a century more, mostly underwater but yeah. Or advanced A.I. might reduce our journeys to two hours a day or even less! Speaking of advanced A.I., what about a gaming system that actually makes 'time' goes slower in real life? All the insane possibilities...

Answering your questions at the end: about a week, but I get really long games mostly, and I like exploring the heck out of them...

I see where you are coming from man. Currently i'm unemployed so i have time to finish games...well actually...i gotta be honest. I've been unemployed for more than 'just a while'. That said...there are too many games. Right now i'm still working on my backlog with games like Alan Wake, Castlevania: LoS and a few others. I still have games from late 2012 like Hitman Absolution, Far Cry 3 and ACIII. And i have yet to buy Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders 2, Borderlands 2 and Dishonored. It ain't funny anymore.

Around the corner is Dead Space 3. Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider and my most anticipated game of this year GTA V. It's too much. I can't imagine how it's gonna be when i'm working again.

@OG: I'm pretty sure Darksiders II has a difficulty setting doesn't it? I found that it's much better than Darksiders as regards being able to take enemies down quickly with the right strategy, as opposed to sharp reflexes. One gripe I had with the original was the ridiculous damage sponge enemies that you just had to wale on forever before the fuckers would go down...

I have lots of time. What I lack is patients, dedication, and a reason to care. Every year the amount of games I finish goes down. I still have games Civilization V, for example, where I spend stupid amounts of time(prolly 750+ hours and counting). But when it comes to start and finish story based sp titles....I don't complete very many. Working on AssCred III for WiiU right now. I had to give up on Darksiders II, it was too hard for me.

So I tend to play games that don't have a finish line. Like Civ, PSO, Wow, Rift, DiabloIII, Torchlight II, and Guild Wars 2, just to name a few.

I go through phases often based on how my social calander looks. I work standard 9-5 hours so I can get a few hours in most nights but things like the gym, football and occasional drinks limit that. I'm still deciding whether I'm single because I game too much or if I game too much because I'm single... Either way I'm sure that would have an impact on my game time, unless she's a gamer too.

It might be different for others but I find the problem isn't having enough time, it's just that there is so much more to worry about as you get older and so much more you need to focus on. Sometimes a lazy Sunday gaming sesh feels like a guilty pleasure but I really don't think it should feel like that.

I never finished the original AC because it was so repetive I lost interest. I want to go back and finish it though but the lack of trophies suuuuuck. Ubi Soft lazy ass should do an update for trophies and watch how many people go back to it. MGS4 did it! Why not AC1 especially when they had a secret costume of Altiar for snake in MGS4.

@ T.G. the hardest thing in the batman games is getting the combos for me. I find the fighting engine to be too random and unpredictable to set up combos. Can't tell you how many times I wanted to snap the disc in half for that damn platinum.

I don't care about trophies myself, but I don't like to leave a game unfinished either. I just play it as long as it's still fun, or sometimes a little afterwards to get it done.

I find my backlog to be a double-edged sword; on the one hand, I can get 3 older games for the price of 1 new game, but on the other, I feel pressured to power through as many games as possible so I can put a dent in it.

This has led to several periods of "doubling", where I'll squeeze in an hour or 2 after work before my wife gets home, and then have another main game session before bed, just so I can log more hours and get through games quicker. It works, but of course at the sacrifice of other things I should be doing.

EDIT: I am absolutely loving Mass Effect. I was just waiting until I could play the original first, b/c I only have a PS3. The thought that 2 is even better blows my mind.

@Brotherhood? Man, I just rage quit the ORIGINAL Assassin's Creed a few months ago because I lost a save and it kept freezing up on me.

Yeah, trophy whoring for me is a nice way to make sure that I squeeze every last drop of goodness out of the games I do own, and that helps me to avoid getting games like Binary Domain and Resident Evil 6 which I probably would play just for the hell of it, because I'm busy trying to get the plat and beat the game.

That said, I know when I'm beat. I don't imagine I'll ever be good enough to beat Vanquish's Challenge Mode or Batman's challenges. You never know though. I was cursing ME3 for a long time on the final stage of my Insanity Run, and then I went away from it for a month or two, and when I came back I beat it on like my second run.

I might beat XCOM some day too...

^ I agree I need to get on that and trophy influence has made me want to complete a lot of games. But the only good thing with a huge back log is that you can afford to wait on new releases and by the time you get to them they'll be half off or on sale reduced more than likely. I got the last 3 Assassin Creeds for half the price because I waited just a few weeks playing my back log stuff. I'm still on brotherhood :(

@Those who have yet to play Mass effect: Do yourselves a favour and get to it ASAP, the second one is probably one of my top favourite games of all time and the third is right up there too, very quality games worth your time.

Trophy whoring is part of the reason I fully complete games, and the reason I spend much more time playing them than the average joe, so I guess that's a contributing factor. I'm at 3500+ trophies and 22 plats and I think I'm slowing down on it now. Still, it's like I'm like an addict getting a fix when that "ding"/icon appear.

The amount of time I spend playing games has fluctuated quite a bit over the years, depending on my level of free time and access to systems.

I've had jobs that left me with almost zero free time at the end of the day, and once went over 2 years with nothing other than a Nintendo DS.

But currently, I'm lucky to have a job with fixed hours that affords me quite a bit of free time, (and even a few weeks vacation) so I can almost game as much as I want.

I agree, there are still not enough hours in the day when trying to balance everything else, and the amount I play does change depending on the game(s) and season, but generally, I play about 2 hours on work days and 4 hours on free days, more if it's a particularly engaging or dense game, or if I'm tackling two games at once.

Now, with it being winter and me on vacation, it's at least 4 hours a day. But I honestly can't play much more than that without feeling I'm neglecting other important things, (or incurring the wrath of my wife).

As for how long it takes to beat a game, well, depends on the game. Might be a few days, to a week or two, or even longer. I take my time, explore, but don't collect every last thing. It generally takes me longer than the average person to beat a game.

EDIT: I've got a huge backlog BTW, way behind. And you're not alone theevilaires, I just started Mass Effect 1 last week.

I'm years behind man. i'm probably the only fool who still haven't played the Mass effect games (did start 1 on 360) I just finished L.A. Noire like 3 weeks ago (awesome game btw) and I want to start Red dead before GTA5.

When I was trophy whoring it took me 2-3 days to platinum a game. Now it can take me 2-3 months/years.

In my case, I can get through games pretty quickly. During the week, I live out in the sticks, so I can't really go anywhere, or do anything, so I tend to get home from work at about 5:30-ish, and by 7pm, I've showered, eaten something, tidied up and done a bit of study, so I can get in a good few hours.

I can get a sneaky hour of gaming in during lunch too sometimes, if it's the kind of game that lends itself well to bit-piece gaming. Also, I don't mind chipping away at a game until the platinum pops. It's like knitting for me...

Saying all that, I do sometimes go for the full on "I will do nothing this weekend but play Borderlands 2" which I feel a little guilty about afterwards. But hey, if it's relaxing, it's all good in my books.

Currently I'm entering exam week of second year high school so time for games is drastically going down, but after they're over, I usually will play around 1-2 hours a night if there's no homework or studying required (which isn't normal). On weekends it can be upwards of 10-15 if I'm not doing anything, but I try to keep it balanced with social life and whatnot heh. It feels like I'm going through withdrawal after not playing the whole week sometimes.

How long it takes to get through games really depends on what it is I'm playing. I've been playing a lot of long and dense games like Farcry 3, Mass effect 2 and Dishonored, and I just got addicted to Persona 3 which is suppose to be a fair length, so I try to get at them one at a time to keep the interest levels high but it's hard when there's so much to play and so little time to do it.

I pretty much just stopped counting by how long a game takes to beat by weeks or whatever since I began playing, I just look at the in-game length of time played which is usually 60-70hrs for games I listed above especially with multiple playthroughs.

I've definitely noticed the amount of time available to play go down significantly over the last few years though, reality is just too busy :/

I really wish there were more time in the world. I am trying to get these games this year and just realized when will I be able to play them?

I didn't think I would be so excited to play MGSR. This Gen I finally starting to pan out to me in terms of quality of titles. Especially on the 3rd party front.

I am hoping the next 2 years really bolster some polished well designed games and maybe a few sequels. Only problem...... IM NOT A KID ANYMORE! :'( I just don't have the time to commit like I use to. My nephews came over a few weeks back beat 3 games that took me about 2 weeks to beat in roughly 48 hours.

What is your gaming sessions like guys? How long does it take you to get through your games? Am I alone on this?
