@friendlydave
They don't just need an excuse to do it though, they need the market to support it and I don't think that is there. The mobile/tablet market has already brought into question the top end prices in the mind of consumers. They will need to continue finding other more stealthy ways to get extra revenue.

I agree with OG with a media box and dedicated gaming box but I think the price's could well be higher

@Dr Damn "They can't raise the basic price for top end games, if they could they would have done it already."

This gen you'r right and they can't, but A new console is the perfect excuse to bump up the prices, not that I agree with it but I can see it happening.

I think the experience Sony had last generation at launch showed there was a limit to how much people are willing to pay for this sort of device. Hence both will be aiming for an upper limit of $400/£300. They may mitigate upfront costs with subs models, but they aren't going to go over these prices by any significant amount.

Game price wise is an interesting one to raise OG. Why do you think they will they go up? Dev costs have been rising for years, why now? It comes back to the point on hardware prices too. There is a certain amount people will pay for games. That's where they are now. There is no appetite for game price rises amongst consumers, and no reason they would accept one. Hence it won't happen. Publishers have been working around this issue for some time and found other ways to make extra money - DLC, subs models, online passes etc. They will continue to do this. They can't raise the basic price for top end games, if they could they would have done it already.

Aside from which talking about a particular retail game price is odd to start with for me. Game prices are no longer a set amount this generation with PSN/XBLA, eShop etc. This will be even more apparent next time. Even retail game prices on Vita are disparate and they will be for other next gen systems.

i also think 400€ or $$$. should be the top limit. it's actually too much already these days but i still think for that price tag you'll get your nextgen fix handed over the counterdesk. if it'll cost more than that, it wont sell, no matter how great the tech is. considering game prices are going up as well, gaming will become more expensive than ever, while it should be the opposite....then the steambox, digital content only comes into play as a tough contender. people will go steambox+wiiu crazy. gaming will be great again ;)
ok...sorry.
ms will have some kind of nextbox light and i think monkey nailed it with that windows tablet. finally a ms handheld. waited for it the whole last gen. thx ms. could be too late now. at least for me. but you never cared about me anyway(*bohooo*).
i think the improvements in the graphics department will be there in both machines, sure, but not as mindblowing as people might expect. i can see sony having the more powerful, slightly more expensive machine. i think a sub plan is almost granted for ms's machine but i can see sony doing the same.
it'll be the last true hardware gen. ms is trying to sneak their xboxmediapctabletgaminghybrid into your homes and their plan will work. i don't know what sony will do. i hope they will surprise me. tech over substance wont work for them anymore that's for sure. i am really curious abot the steambox now.
i think we're more talking 2014 department regarding nextboxps4 me thinks... i can see sony and nintendo going the software only route (games console related sonywise) in a not so distant future, with ms dominating the hardware front.

Watch Dogs will be shown as a MS exclusive (or timed exclusive) using the Xbox Tablet and 720 compatibility.

Basically, it'll be a more powerful Wii U but the pad will be HD, have multi-touch and be able to be taken out with you to play / surf on the move.

MS:

7" Media based Tablet with Smart Glass features. Plays XBLA games and releases before 720.

Everyone gets upset, another year of 360!!!

Idea being to get people to purchase this so MS has more monopoly over SmartGlass being on one of THEIR products rather than iPad etc...

Priced at about £150 - £200 maybe includes physical controls.

Announced in Feb 2013, releases end of the year and works with 360 aswell (although specs are similar / better, may use Tegra 4).

720 or whatever it's called announced at E3 2013 but in showreel form, releases 2014 with Kinect 2 and compatible with Tablet controller with Smartglass.

Priced £299 - £399, runs games 1080p, 60FPS.

:)

Sony has basically the same thing, maybe with Vita packaged in lol

Nintendo release new home console in 2015, Wii U was just a place holder.

New Nintendo machine is more powerful than 720 & PS4, fan boys cry. It's the last home console as we know.

MS-
100-150 for mediabox (it cheap and wont play 720 games, just sharing the brand name)
350-400 for real deal

Sony-
350-400 (basic version)
450-500 (enthusiast version containing bc, plus and gaikai sub etc. A sony fan version so to say)

Well what are your thoughts?

MS - Two skus

250usd for the MediaBox

400usd for the dedicated GameBox

Game prices 75usd for retail.

Sony - 400usd(could also offer a higher sku with more memory - however I think they follow Nintendos lead and offer the use of extrenal HDDs, thus removing the need for multi skus based on storage alone).

Game prices 75usd

I also wonder if MS might not offer some sort of long term sub plan that discounts the price. Like a Cell phone contract. Instead of 400usd, the system costs 150usd with a two year 15usd/month plan.

Your guessing? Thoughts?
