The Cell is a very good stream processor which they've adapted to more general purposes. The only reason to include it (or a derivative) in PS4 would be for backward compatibility. If that's the only way they can work BC in then include a regular chip as a secondary processor and use it that way. The main architecture of the PS4 shouldn't be compromised in order to provide BC though.

Sadly they have no room for experimenting once more with the cell, i understand your points and are pretty valid, especially the knowladge the developers, especially first and second party on sony side of things have right now, that will be a plus, but like i said they need to go with the tested route, i mean a more PC like architecture, if the ps3 and vita were a success in the terms of the ps2, then iam pretty sure they would have room to manouver a new cell, right now no so much, and i think they made the right choice, because it will also incide in a lower price point for their next console, they kill two birds with one stone, the developers will be right away with it in terms of knowing the tech especially in the third part front, and they will lower the costs for their next hardware, it will be a healthy decision, economic and supporting wise.

Cell is a buzzword. It doesn't mean anything. It wasn't any sort of magical superchip that revolutionised the industry. It was just a restrictive piece of hardware that over-complicated development for everyone involved.

As long as the hardware is solid and decently specced, that's all that mattered. There's no point in having an elephant in your house if there isn't enough room to let him move around.

Short and simple, no BC. Although I don't give a shit to BC since I definitely wont be playing 7th gen games on a 8th gen console. But still, now that most devs can use cell processor effectively and a 22nm cell processor would be awesome, it just feel bad how all the knowledge about cell would be wasted.Rumors are probably true that AMD processors are in ps4, but I don't see an APU config as powerful as discrete ones.
Not to mention most sony first party devs have their own proprietary engines customized for cell, like ND etc. I doubt those devs would want to have a learning curve again.

So whats your take, cell or no cell?
