Controller mapping is a huge one, why the hell don't they have that now anyways? It's not even difficult and it can make all the difference between the game being total shit to being astounding fun.

I too would wish for more creative and new IP. Personally, I want more games in the first-person perspective because to me it is more immersive among other things. Now before the rage pours in, it doesn't have to be a shooter, but something more along the lines of exploration or movement like Mirror's Edge.

I also want them to future-proof it as much as possible because if the companies still view the 10-year model as applicable, I want this bad boy to be set for years and not fall in to a decline around the 7th or so year like this one.

Tons of memory......for high res textures and better anti-aliasing/filtering.

I pretty much play PC now, as I just bought a new system that is just amazing. I own Crysis 2 on 360 and it looks really good, but Crysis 2 with everything maxed and the maldohd mod just blows it out of the water. I usually build my own systems but this time I didn't, and the new system comes with a AMD 2TB 7870. The rumored 360 chip is either a crappy 6670/7670 or a true southern islands GPU. If its a SI GPU like a 7850/7870 then performance is going to be pretty spectacular. I cannot wait for the next gen, just hope its doesn't disappoint.

Can I throw out a curve ball? Does anyone mind?

Let me ask you folks, if(Hardware) competetion is so good, and yet competing systems create a situation of having to worry about stuff such as Platform Parity, aren't we better off having just one system isntead?

Call it a curve, call it devils advocate.

But wouldn't one unified standard amoung console system actualy be better for games? Maybe even gamers?

A new engine for CoD... Nah that's being silly :-/

I agree with the platform parity thing, but my take on it, is that PS3 games suffered due to getting rush ports of the 360 versions. If the devs had spent the time & money, the PS3 versions would always have been the best version.

Silly Sony didn't have the deep pockets to buy them off though :-(

Agreed.

It sucked how this gen so much dev time was wasted trying to get platform parity from the PS3. It held back 360 development a huge amount, and very rarely did any game look or play as well on the PS3.

@OrbitMonkey: I agree with that trophy list deletion thing. Like, if you're gonna replay a game, you might want to have all the trophies ding for you again. Or if you don't like a game, you might wanna delete it altogether.

@OlderGamer: Amen brother, a new Dual Shock controller would be most welcome, I've lost count of the number of times I've failed to perform an action because the analogue sticks are too chunky and imprecise. I mean, I'm often unable to even block in SF IV FFS.

One more minor thing I'd like to mention: SORT OUT THE FUCKING BUTTONS IN PSN GAMES! "O" is yes, "X" is no, okay? Navigating menus is really infuriating...

Ima list a few things:

Free2Play games.

Less mega franchises, more fresh IPs.

More creative smaller/medium sized games.

Cheaper games.

MMOs.

Account Migration, I want my xb360/PS3/Wii purchases to work on my new systems. I bought them I want to use them.

I want premium TV, at a fair price.

Subscription free Online MP play.

Same room MP focus.

A new Gauntlet.

More game diversity, less focus on shooters.

MUCH less focus on DLC, put the whole game in the box.

Stop treating me like a wallet, start treating me like a valued customer, give me value.

A better/different PS controler pad.

I know bunch of stuff, and most of it has zero chance of actualy happening. But thats the idea of what you wish for things in the first place. if I had to pick just one thing: Account Migration. If you want me to have confidence in purchasing digital content, make sure I don't lose it just because we move to another generation. I can play my Steam purchases regaurdless of what generation we are in. Consoles/platforms should work like that as much as possible.

Personally i would be happy if region locks were gone for good next gen. Oh and full backwards compatibility with the previous gen. i dont even care if i have to buy an add-on for it like Sega's master system converter.

Return of true gaming console: I want the classic plug and play for my games. As in, NO MORE INSTALLS. NO MANDATORY PATCHS. No 10 million menues and checks before game menu.
It should be like this: Turn on the console in 3 seconds, insert disk in another 3 seconds, wait 10-20 seconds for the game to boot and INSTANTLY have access to new game / start game option.

@G1GA
No load times are actually quite possible. Using proper solid state drives can reduce 30-40 sec loads to less than 3 seconds and that CAN be hidden from gamers eyes. Most modern games already have longer load times that what we see but they hide it with effects like AC transition from Playable Loading area or COD's pre level text and dialogue.

And that's just from a hardware standpoint. You can do a lot as a programmer and a designer. I think we CAN have games where there is an initial loading for the world and then nothing more. No loads for reloads, checkpoint restarts and stuff like that. Sure, games like Fallout New Vegas or Skyrim require 100s of flags and ticks for any small area abd will require the hardware help but there also titles like Trials HD which even with 3D graphics has shorter load times than a 2D game like Super Meat Boy.

No load times? Isn't that what cartridges did in 1996?

I'll go for the nearly impossible, with latency free online gaming.

But if we're sticking with the feasible here, then I'd go for a controller that beats m/kb.

Alright, no lists, no top three, just the one thing that you absolutely need in your next gen console.

In my case, having given this some thought, I'm gonna say "No load times". Every-time I'm waiting three to five seconds for a game to reload, every time I enter a new area, and rather than stream the game has to go away and load up everything from scratch, every time I navigate a menu screen and there's a split second delay between when I skip to the next screen and the game displays it I die a little inside.

Obviously I want new stories, new IPs, new AI and all that jazz, but the waiting is the one thing I really want to do away with on a technical level. The graphics we have right now will do me fine...
