I totally agree that the gameplay is very outdated an that the trial and error can get boring fast, but the atmospher is perfectly done in the game.

Also, the game is playable, it is not like It is glitchy or filled with bugs, but it is so simple.

I have it, deal of the day on Steam thought I'd give it a punt. It always looked interesting in the build up to release (as so many disappointing games do) but got torn apart by the critics, for under a fiver though, why not?

The gameplay struck me as extremely dated. It's essentially a stealth game, but seriously, Metal Gear Solid on PS1 had more advanced gameplay imo. Velvet Assassin is as basic as it gets. Crouch, stay in the shadows, knife people in the back, that is the entire game from start to finish. You can fling a stone to attract a guard's attention to that spot, I think that's the only nod to having any sort of "advanced" gameplay. Oh yeah, there's a hilariously pointless "Morphine mode" that essentially lets you bypass the actual stealth part of the game (the only actual part of the game) and knife guys in the face.

I suppose the game looks decent enough graphically, but the animation is pretty shitty. The whole game feels like a PS1 or 2 game with a flimsy current gen skin on top.

I think in general just a horribly disappointing game. Brings nothing new to the table and on top of that is just really lacking in comparison to its peers. I reckon anybody who paid full price for this must have recoiled in disgust.

Yeah, I did try it three years ago or so on a Windows computer.

Unfortunately, the tedious trial and error gameplay lead to me deleting it permanently from the hard drive.

Had anybody asking me this Q last week, I would say BioShock, Dead Space or Deus Ex, but after playing the mid budget relatively unknown game called Velvet Assassin, I found myself adding it to the list.

The game is about takinghe role of the Female British spy and digging deep behind the Nazi lines. It is a spying game with little action sequences thrown here and there. It is not the most technical game out there nor the most polished, but it is the darkest one and one of the most atmospheric ever.

I have played a lot of WW2 from CoDs to the endless PC releases and none of them dared to illustrate the scene as this game did. The graphics engine use the darkest rendering colors you could think of that even in the daylight, things look grim and scary. Not only that but the Nazi soldiers have a much deeper presentation than your usual WW2 game. You will read their letters where they express that they are missing their families, some regretting what they are doing.

The music is even darker than the look of the game. The sounds of tortured soldiers, heavy ambience and machines are very very well made and serve the game so well.

Anybody tried the game ?
