@DrDamn: performance is great for me. A solid 30 fps. It looks better than the console version from the looks of it, and it doesn't lag more than the console version would so 30 fps is enough for me.

Though it seems like nVIDIA cards are having a harder time than AMD. Funnily I have an nVIDIA card.

Tried the demo last night. Interesting that they got a demo out for an open world game - obviously it's restricted and may give the wrong idea - but good for them for doing one.

Demo itself was reasonable. Nice chunk of action and actually reasonably tough too - which was nice. Would like to have tried the driving but obviously that is a bit trickier to demo. Game got official approval from my wife (originally from Hong Kong). She quite liked the story and obviously being able to pick up on and understand any Cantonese dialogue was a plus.

Frame rate was a bit choppy in places - how is the main game? Will pick up when its a bit cheaper I think.

Rented and completed it last Weekend. The end was pretty anti-climatic and kind of stupid to be honest. The story itself wasn't that good to begin with, not once was i surprised, most of the 'plot-twist' could be easily predicted.

Wondering who's going to die next? Checklist:

Is he/she sitting in your car?
Is he/she talking about starting over/starting something completely new and awesome in their life?

It's the typical "Dude, you'll see, tomorrow, everything is going to be different, i'm gonna be a new guy. Life is gonna be awesome again."

It couldn't be more obvious.

The whole social aspect of the game and the characterization in general falls very flat. You never really spend much time with the characters, besides missions. GTA IV may have annoying cousins, but it also had characters that had something to tell. Personally, i'd have to admit that i didn't care much for any of the characters. The non-existing facial animation didn't help either. I thought most of the voicework was bad too.

Then there's the girlfriend thing which is still don't understand. You date a girl once, only to never see her again, but you gain some intel on your map. The more girls you date, the more intel you gain. I dated four girls in the game, then suddenly a mission popped up where i had to spy on one of them to see if she was 'cheating on me'.

And Shen was also kind of furious about it, even though he dated three other girls and even though it was just one date. All of a sudden the game acts like they have been a couple for the last two months.

The girl complained to Shen about dating some other girl and then it kind of disappeared. So either she was overly attached or the developer forgot something. What a waste, truely. One of the girls is voiced by Emma Stone. You'd think there are better ways to waste your money.

The combat is fun, sure, so's the driving and especially the drive-shooting, but the missions, story and characters fall all flat.

Another thing that bothered me was the sound. I always think that the motor sound of some cars is extremely annoying, so i turn that down to 4 and it's still noisy as hell. I turn on the radio and i can't hear it anymore. It's like a pair of scales. Turn the radio up and you don't hear the car, turn it down and the motorsound shatters your ears.

Lol, just found the steam group for VG247, and Sleeping Dogs is already the second most played game among the users. Although it's probably only four or five users playing it.

Beat it and the ending didn't disappoint. People still playing are in for quite a ride. I'm funnily not done playing, still got about 30 achievements left to unlock. And I'm going to unlock them!

Kinda depends on the camera issues though. I hadn't seen a camera as shitty as the one in Kingdoms of Amalur since maybe a decade ago, and that's pretty critical for an action game.

@Giskard
No ofcourse not. There are other factors that adds to my opinion of the game. Such as the story isn't really interesting to me since it is very easy to predict what is going to happen. And just to add, i didn't enjoy Skyrim that much either with the horrible graphics, 2-3 hour main story campaign, NPC's don't acknowledge what you've achieved (being the archmage and yet being suggested to study at the mage college -.-). I'm sorry if i don't like the games that are popular to love but aren't people allowed to have different tastes?

Oh and the "romance system" is kind of annoying.

I wish you could choose a girl and stick with her throughout the game or fuck around if that's what you wanted. Sure, you can go out with a girl, but it doesn't seem like you get to se her anymore. And I have this habit of just calling everybody on my cell and so I accidentally called a girl while I was dating another.

Sort of like the Mass Effect romance system would be nice. Would be great to see this expanded in a sequel because I do hope this gets a sequel. Sort of like Mafia 2 to Mafia. Reviews are great so all they need is some one to two million sales.

I think it is pretty mediocre. There are some severe issues with the game. For example if you have a 360 pad installed on your system (not even connected) then it screws with the camera controls. Secondly if you have 3D Vision and you want to play without it, it causes drop in framerate every 4-5 second which isn't all that great. If those issues were fixed i would most likely think the game is pretty ok.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I haven't put in as many hours as Steam says as I keep falling asleep with it on but I have made progress, how far in or from the end I have no idea at this stage.

The story up to this point has been really great and engaging and I think the voice acting has been brilliant. I won't give any spoilers away but for me they definitely succeeded in making me feel for some of the characters, I was genuinely angry about one part and was very satisfied going out for revenge. They've made Wei a really interesting main character, because of the story development and supporting characters around him, its proving difficult (for me at least) to not like the idea of him losing sight of the undercover mission and just going full triad.

I find the gameplay right in the middle of GTA and Saints Row, it's a great mix so far. The driving, combat and shooting is all solid. I haven't changed the difficulty so I assume I'm playing on normal and some fights are challenging. Some people might think that the combat is button mashy but it's rewarding to get your timing right and just have a clean fight where you kick serious ass. So far it's been a lot more hand to hand than gunplay but considering its quite hard to actually get hold of a gun I like the change in difficulty when you do have to fight random armed groups.

So, yeah, I would easily say I'm absolutely loving the game at this point and I would definitely recommend it. The writing has its moments but is generally great. I think people looking for a "mature" story should look into this. It IS violent but as I said, I find the story completely engaging.

I'd also agree with Takeshi and go as far to say it's proving to be one of the best gaming experiences for me this year. I'd also agree tht the game does look great, I didn't really mention that above but it's not really a big deal as both story and gameplay is top notch so far.

Takeshi on "Sleeping Dogs"

Combat is not as easy as Arkham City, but it feels more realistic this way. I mean, Batman is over the place when he's fighting while Wei fights more naturally. Combat is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

The graphics are pretty fucking amazing. I am playing on my school's laptop which is a bit more powerful than my own (well, I can at least play BF3 on it while the shit crashes on my own). I have it on 720p with everything on though SSAO and Anti-Aliasing is at its lowest. Try driving at night when it's raining and then look at the streets, holy fucking shit, it's so pretty. *_*

I am playing with a controller and that's much better than with mouse and keyboard, hopefully, they can fix some of the issues there is there. I am playing with Xbox buttons so that took a bit of getting used to, hah. My friend who plays Xbox would love to hear that I've sort of betrayed Sony and Playstation.

The story is pretty damn long. I really didn't think this was going to be such a long game. I've been playing for 13 hours, and I've yet to meet that Dragonhead who is supposed to be the boss of the Triad. Then again, I've been doing a lot of side quests. It's not like Deus Ex: HR where I lost interest in playing the game after doing a lot of side quests, I still very much feel like playing Sleeping Dogs even after I haven't touched the main story for a few hours.

A few iffy points are the gunplay, it auto aims which is pretty annoying (don't think you can turn it off) and aiming is not as good as something like Uncharted. Also, you may run out of ammo which makes you a dead man since you can't "store" guns on your body. It has also crashed two or three times for me, it's not a huge deal although it would be great if that could be fixed. One time caused me to repeat an hour of gameplay. Hurray for auto-save.

It's certainly one of the best gaming experiences for me this year.

I've got it however I'm only at the very start. I'll be playing some more today and some during the next week.

So far, it's fun. Already the story feels like it's going to go pretty deep into it like most of the reviews said.
Driving solid, a lot more arcadey than I'm used to but it works, the power sliding/drifting will be good after getting the hang of it a little more. For example like other games you'd hold it down and go around the corner with ease, this you need to use a bit more skill and not hold the button for too long otherwise you'll go flying.
Combat is good, however it does feel strange to have the same button for kicking and punching :P Again once I get used to it a little more and when to react to the Kung-Fu sense (yes I know it's not called that but it should XD) I'll be a lot better. You definitely can't wing it, it's harder than just button mashing, if I'm honest, at the moment it feels harder than the Batman combat.

Overall solid first impressions.

Who has it? I know myself and Viral do.

What do you think of it?

I'm confident enough about it at this stage to recommend it, especially with the high res textures pack included for free on PC.

* Combat is awesome, mainly melee with environment kills
* Driving is arcadey and really fun
* There are RPG elements e.g. exp, level ups, skill trees
* It detects friends with the game and at appropriate moments flashes up their best time which you then try to beat.. e.g. longest wheelie.
* PC port seems decent so far, can tweak graphics and rebind stuff.

So far I am loving it! I might write a proper review after playing more.
