The problem is that you don't play proper games. It's like you've been eating microwave meals and have finally grown tired of them.

Some of those games you list are some of the worst most commercial crap that exists, apart from maybe Bioshock, but even that was a shallow consolised experience. The fact that you think Heavenly Sword is an original game is a bit strange. It's Double Dragon multiplied by modern technology.

You need to get into PC gaming. Get Gnomoria from Desura. Try Arma II, Legend of Grimrock, Minecraft, X3, Mount & Blade Warband, etc, etc.

I was born in 1985 and was bored of FPS's after completing MoH: Allied Assault. Maybe you've just arrived at that point now.

Interesting G1GA. Lest we can lay to rest the notion that not enjoying a OMP shooter is driven by being bad at it. I have been playing a lot of L4D on Steam recently. I picked it up during one of their recent sales, and have been enjoying it.

For me, I think it is just over exposure. I can't play them day after day. Also worth noting I have been playing l4d co-op with my wife, brother inlaw and his wife. Not versus. Makes a big difference in my book. But a little mindless fun never hurt anyone.

"A legit question here G1GA: what if your one of the noobs?"

Apparently, they don't get bored, either.

No, seriously.

I've been using Elite a lot to check out my stats after gaming sessions, recently.

One of the things that I've found most interesting is looking at the stats of people that I've just played against.

The thing is that I've really begun to notice a large number of players who've played the game for anywhere between 100 and 500 hours, but have stats that range from abysmal to average at best.

For example, I recently looked at someone's stats that I'd just played, and was shocked to see that they'd played the game for 500 hours, but only had a k/d of about 0.5.

So this person (gamertag suggested it was a girl) basically goes 10-20, or something, on average, every single game, but they like the game enough to keep coming back again and again.

and there are loads of similar examples.

In fact, most of the time when I check the (FFA) lobby leaderboard these days, I've got the highest k/d, and most of the people in there are negative.

So whatever it is that online games are doing these days, they seem to have found a way to keep the not-so-good players from having a good enough time to want to keep coming back.

Whether it's continuous unlocks, death streaks, or support classes, there's something there for a wide range of different skill levels.

I agree that this generation has also contained some of my favourite games of all time, Dead Space 1, MGS4, Bioshock 1 to name but a few however these were all 4 + years ago now we just seem to get re-hasses of the same grind when original ideas like Heavenly Sword and Enslaved are canned due to them not making enough profit.

@HeavyD-Love
Upscaling can be overrated, a decent tv will do a good job of it for you anyway. Up-rezzing would be nice, but only PC emulators attempt this.

I just have one question. Is the WiiU going to be backwards compatible with Wii games? If yes, will it upscale to HD?

Does ANYONE know if this has been officially addressed yet?

Thanks in advance!

The SP just needs better writers. I think I've seen everyway to frag somebody in first/3rd person, but it's rare for me to actual enjoy the story for the sake of the story alone y'know?

Deadspace was great, loved piecing that together and The Darkness 2 really surprised me. Loved the goomba mobsters and the love story between Jackie and Jenny.

Obviously theirs more, Uncharted 2, Arkham, even CoD4, but their little gems in a slurry of shit. But hasn't it always been this way?

"You just can't get bored of pwning noobs."

A legit question here G1GA: what if your one of the noobs?

I mean I understand what your saying. And I know you understand where I am coming from. By saying noob, of course I mean just not great at online Shooters. Could be your weak ISP, could be your reaction/twitch speed isn't what it used to be, or maybe you just stink.

In all of the OMPs I have played, I only dominated in two of them. One was Meridian59. It was one of the first graphical MMOrpgs on the market in the mid 90s. It was built on a modified Doom engine, and was based around run and gun(albeit swords, bows, and magic) open world PVP. Not uncommon for 25-50 players or more to engage in combat(where dying means loss of a level, stats, and all your gear droping to the ground to be looted). Pretty hardcore. I was very good. Very good.

The second game was Mechassult(xbox one). I think most fo you know the game. I was often in top 5, top 10 world rankings. I could often go 30-1, 30-2. Even once in awhile have a perfect round.

Those were some of the best game experiences I have ever had. I know what your saying about how you enjoy killing people in a game of CoD. But...

It never once occured to me what the other folks felt like. Or what they might have thought fo the games I was playing. I played M59 and was so ruthless as a PKer, that years later I was talking to a guy that quit because of my toon killing him over and over. Not making that up.

In most games only the top 20% or so the players are really good. Most are hoping to be average. The bottom players will prolly fall away after awhile. the trouble we had with Mechassult, was after a few years of the same game, the only players left where the top 20%. I believe this is why a new CoD comes out yearly instead of yearly DLC drops for one single older version. Keeps people thinking they can compete.

But what if you can't? I know I can't, not like I used to be able to. The very best I can hope for is to not ride the bottom of the leaderboards round after round.

If your one of those top players, you are loving this gen. Prolly loving the xb360 too. But if your looking for SP gaming. Good story based gaming. C0-op, or just none competitive playing... The game shelves are looking pretty thin.

I know you really enjoy the OMP shooter stuff. Lots of people do. But man, there has to be more to gaming then that shit. Cause it ain't going to be enough to keep people coming back forever.

Longest generation ever filled with copy and paste jobs on most games, it's like developers don't sit down and really have a brainstorm anymore for freshness, it' seems likes they see another game and think that's good we'll do that in a different skin. When I see games announced these days there is not much excitement like previously.

What Ireland Michael said. If you aren't interested in/have grown tired of generic shooters, motion games and sport games, there really isn't a lot of games to be excited about today. I've come to realize that my affection for the Assassin Creed games has less to do with the quality of the games and more to do with the fact that you don't run around in dark corridors and shoot aliens/soldiers/monsters in the head.

I spend a lot more time playing games on my iPad and iPhone than on my Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii combined, simply because everything that's released on the latter consoles feels like rehashes of stuff from last year. I'm hopeful that one of the big three will be able to create an ecosystem as vibrant as the App Store for the next generation of consoles, but I wouldn't bet on it.

In the meantime, I'll be playing 10000000 on my iPad.

I don't think age has anything to do with it. The current crop of console gaming is just swarming in mediocrity and unoriginality, and any medium lacking originally will stagnate.

That's why so many people are gravitating away from consoles and towards smartphones and tablets, and to a lesser extent the PC. There is far more originality and inventive ideas cropping up on those formats than you ever see on consoles nowadays, and the entry point on price is far more generous too boot.

tl;dr version: Current console gaming is a fucking bore.

i feel the same. and i hear you too absolutezero, totally....actually can relate to all that has been said here.

i am 36 and gaming almost always was a part of my life. i cannot get excited about most of the blockbuster games anymore..maybe halo still gets me excited but i am at a point where i´m even thinking about getingt rid of my ps360 and not joining the next gen, or not really...

...because: i love the 3ds! it is a fantastic gaming machine. there are many many games that are so much fun to play and which have an insane replay value. it is all about gameplay here. it is old school gaming fun but at the same time very modern. the 3ds really is my favourite device for games atm. games like mario 3d land, pilotwings, ocarina of time, theatrhthm FF, mutant mudds, mario kart, kingdom hearts and countless more are among the best games i have played in the last year or so, seriously. i´d suggest to get a 3dsxl and some 3ds and ds games (yoshis island, nsmb!)
then a wiiu...
i play games now from time to time together with my grilfriend. something i haven´t done before. the 3ds and wii was breaking the ice. she´s not much into gaming at all but she loves to play the layton games and on the 3dsxl it´s great to do that even together, solving puzzles and stuff, or she helps me out collecting stars in mario galaxy...it is fun. and that´s what counts.

the console blockbuster games almost make me puke sometimes. it has become so predictable - and shallow - games as a medium have so much potential. rareley they use their full potential though. it´s a shame...but it´s not all bad. i have hope.

for me - at the moment - i think: 3ds, wii U and then maybe a decent gaming pc is more than i need to be a happy gamer in the near future...

I find myself living in the past more and more. Its a negative thing. I just want to hide away from what games mean now.

I've taken up a new hobby to try and start dropping how much time I spend reading and talking about video games.

I'm tired of the extended audience of video games negatively impacting my personnal enjoyment of gaming, so instead of just getting more bitter and resentful I think I might just stop playing.

I agree with OG comments, and I will aslo like to add that games right now want to be more like movies, not only with the games per-se, which nowadays are getting closer and closer at being movies, being that the main focus, instead of gaming, and gameplay, they are focusing more on graphics, and with every generation the focus is increasing, but also in the business stand point of view, this might also be one of the things that are affecting you, of course the lack of innovation is still the primary factor, for feeling this way, i will share from time to time those feelings, when it happens, i play XBLA/PSN and nintendo games, i found a lot of innovation in those places, more so than many of the AAA tittles.

By the way congratulations on your birthday, your zodiac sign is the lion, they are great leaders, i mean those who birth under that sign are great leaders, or are great at leadership, iam a sagittarious another fire zodiac sign.

Thanks guys, OG I think you are spot on, I think it is the lack of originality that bothers me most, I'll always be interested in something with a good story, acting, music, gameplay, it's just a shame they are few and far between these days. When trophies are finally released for MGS 4 I'll probably replay that.

I could write a book, I kid. Well, not really.

But I will try not to do that.

I think the console-centric market is filled with lots of games trying to compete for the same game space, offering mostly the same game experiences. I am not sure the pure length of the consoles lifecycle is the only cause. I think the graphics have reached a ceiling. Creativity is seemingly dead in the AAA games space. And the franchise push all lead to fatigue.

I don't care what some folks say, yearly franchises burn out gamers unless there is something new infused to keep the game feeling fresh. You can see it all of the time that people are growing tired of gaming. Read it all of the time. And Mad is saying it too. People get tired of playing the samething, over and over.

That is one thing.

Another is your age Mad. Younger gamers have more patients for games. They also, being younger, have the broadest swath of games aimed at them. The older you get, the less your impressed with much of what is out there. There will always be exceptions, so before someone types that he is 39yr old or 44yr old and still plays new AAA console games daily, just understand that there are always exceptions. But when I talk to older gamers, alot of them say the exact samethings that Mad did. Most of them move from being heavy console gamers, to using consoles for exclusives and Netflix and spending most of their gaming time on PC, Mobile, etc. And many just game less.

Age has is a big part of it. Most older gamers are more cynicle, less patient, and more picky towards games.

In the end Mad, you played Diablo III with me, I know you enjoy that. You picked up something on ipad you enjoyed. Meaning that wanting to play and enjoying games really isn't an issue. I don't see it as the gamer that is in question, just the games you want to play.

Do what I did, move on. I have consoles for the occasonal exclusive, but I mostly game on PC. Civilization, Diablo III, Rift/Wold of Warcraft, Tourchlight II, Guild Wars 2, and a whole host of indie games all keep me busy and satisfied as a gamer. I am really looking forward to owning a 3DSxl as well. In part the Nintendo thing, but also the slightly old school design of the games on the system appeal to me. I don't have an ipad or tablet of any kind, but I can get stuff like that on Steam(sorta), and I do have the odd game here and there for my smartphone.

Also, no doubt in my mind that when new systems come out, your intrest will once again peek. That is just being a gamer. And yes the current systms have worn out their welcome for many folks. But in the back of your mind, if you look, I bet you find a little voice that knows the next gen of consoles games won't really play any different the current ones you have grown tired of.

Happy Birthday! Probably a combination of all of the above. Possibly age related too. I go through phases myself. More recently tired of FPS and currently having loads of fun with Rainbow Moon (PSN PS3 title).

Today is my 35th birthday. For the last few months I have hardly touched my PS3 whereas before I used to play it most days for an hour or two and more at the weekends. There is literally nothing that excites me on PS3 at the moment other than the prospect of Bioshock Infinite, Aliens:CM and perhaps Ass Creed 3, even with that I never even played much of revelations. My PS Vita is sitting mostly dorment.

Is it the usual summer drought, am I getting too old or is the PS3 getting too long in the tooth.

Still play Diablo 3 though and planning a gaming PC build in my Bifenix Prodigy case so I guess it's either the drought or the PS3 is too old. I am worried about the PS Vita/PS3/4 future as the gaming market is more and more going towards tablet gaming. I recently played ep1 of the walking dead on the ipad instead of the PS3 as it was more convenient and cheaper.

What does anyone else think, summer drought or late generation malaise?
