My vote would go to RF:G.

Just Cause 2 is fun but suffers from a lack of progression; being able to go anywhere and do anything is great at the start, but it also means you've a massive world with little to look forward to. Whilst you certainly aren't powerless at the start of Guerilla, by the end you've access to several new toys which allow things — most notably the environmental destruction — to escalate.

RF:G has the best gunplay of any open-world game I've played. Its core draw of destroying things is also interesting in its dynamism, as you're chipping away at structural integrity rather than a building's health bar; you can bring down massive structures with a few well placed charges.

Guerilla's multiplayer was also surprisingly great, although I imagine it's a wasteland at this point.

It's a real shame RF: Armageddon basically killed the series when the previous game hit upon something so unique.

Also, you should watch this.

Well now. No good work for RF:Guerrilla? really? the cutscenes, structured missions, and voice acting in Just cause 2 are the worst around. The challenges, destruction, characters, and actual game missions in guerrilla are better, but, Just Cause 2 is pretty fun and quite beautiful. They've finally patched Just cause 2 (after, what 10 months?) so most of the issues that people could complain about are gone. Get the jetpack DLC and getting around will be a lot of fun. If you like collectibles, it is the best around, but the limited ammo supply is one consistently annoying point.

Guerrilla is great because you can destroy half of a building and the destruction will persist thought the entire playthrough: the game will remember which individual block you knocked out the next time you come by. The hot seat multiplayer destruction challenges are the best in the business (the only in the business, to be honest).

They are both good, and great fun, but the sense of freedom in Just Cause 2 - outside of the missions - is untouchable, and the destruction in RF: Guerrilla is untouchable (DO NOT buy Red Faction: Armageddon; I'd say worst sequel ever, but the industry has been doing a particularly good job at poor sequels lately *looks at Saints Row 3*).

It's old, like really old. But if you can imagine enjoying a squadbased action game using an early version of the Hitman engine in the year 2012, you should definitely go for it.

Have you considered Freedom Fighters? You'd probably have to go to Ebay, but if you're looking for a resistance fix, that's pretty much the best there is.

The Saboteur is definitely worth checking out as well. EA shoved it out the door before it was finished, but even in its less than polished state, its still great fun. It's like a resistance sandbox, with lots of nazi killing.

Other than that, yeah, definitely go for Just Cause 2.

Fuck it, I'll get both. They're both über-long, which had put me off as I want to make time for DarkSiders 2 when it comes out.

Played 'em both for a limited time and I'd recommend JC2 over Red Faction. JC2 has awful cut-scenes and is far from perfect, but you can't beat it for pure scale and mayhem.

I really enjoyed JC2. Loads of content and really good fun to just try things. Think it should be appearing soon on PS+ in Europe as it was in the mega-update in the US recently and hints suggested any regional differences would be resolved at some point.

I haven't got around to playing RF:G yet but I'm pretty sure it's not completely open world like JC2. It's the typical, approach the mission your way type of open world :) But I hear it's quite fun to blow up buildings :P
JC2 is completely open world however it was pretty distracting and I never got around to doing missions really as they were a little boring, all I did was take planes, fly around then jump out XD

Saboteur is a fantastic game, unfortunately has quite a few bugs which the devs didn't get around to sorting before release as they went bankrupt. But yeah, fantastic game, quite a nice fresh taste for the open world sandbox with having it in Paris with an Irish protag. The art design is pretty nice too with Nazi occupied locations in black n white until you kill all the Nazi's from that area and then it returns back to normal colour. So yeah, great game but unfortunately has quite a few bugs.

Looking for a new open world experience to play with a popular resistance/liberation element to it.

So... which is better/more fun: JC2 or RF:G?

Also, as a side questions, is The Saboteur worth playing at all?
