Ember Mage is well hard to play on Elite.

It feels like Concentration mode will be key to survival, but I'm having difficulty getting there without getting severely fucked up in the process.

I've been using staffs as my chosen weapons, but the slow attack speed is making them feel really non-viable for a class that doesn't have beefy defence, I can't get a hit in then dodge the retaliation, and am even taking hit before my attack completes, which just rapes your health bar. The other option is wands or wand plus shield, which I wasn't too keen on cus I did that with my Alchemist in T1.

I've tried a few different builds but nothing is standing out as competitive right now.

I could really use mana and health leech weapons.

@Young Count me in! I've yet to play it (I've been extremely busy lately) but after I'll pour some hours in this, I'm definitely going to try the multiplayer. Sounds like it's a solid game.

I've played for maybe an hour, and it's a solid game, but I really don't see how Torchlight 2 actually tries to move anything forward.

It's like a tweaked Diablo 2, and that's good, but I think the expectations are far too high based on what I've seen.

It shares a lot of bad habits with Diablo 3, it definitely has that WoW feel, all the way down to the artstyle. It's like WoW and Shank had a baby with a low polygon count.

I can get past the graphics, but the gameplay itself seems like it's based a lot more on the zerg aspect of it. I'm constantly fighting a million mobs that I don't really recognize, just tearing into them semi-randomly. It's still satisfying, but I don't feel like I'm adding my own touch to it.

One thing Diablo 3 got right was the feeling of actually fighting the mobs. They were all pretty distinctive, and while some were downright boring fodder, you did feel like you had to attack and counter depending on how you preferred to play the game. I don't really see a lot of that in Torchlight II.

It's really the same with the world so far. It's alright, and I like that the game gives you a lot of distractions in sidequests and portals etc., but you have a lot of loading screens, and everybody's just kinda standing around, - and at the end of the day you're going into the exact same mob-farm that you were in D3 or D2 or D1 or most ARPGs.

I like the variety, and I especially like the humor. It's always cool to see a pirate named One-Eyed Willie or a rare mob called Foolchomper.

It is interesting to compare the freedom to the gameplay though. In Torchlight II I can play however I want and experiment with builds, but at the same time I don't think the abilities are as much fun as they are in D3. I'm playing the Outlander which is not unlike the Demon Hunter, but I keep wanting to chain mobs together and lay down traps. There just isn't the same sense of purpose. I feel like I can get by using most any ability.

Both games have a neat little backflip though, so that's another thing they have in common.

It is obviously a must-buy, and I think the variety and moddability is going to add a lot to the replayability, certainly compared to something like Diablo 3, but neither of those two games are really what I'm looking for.

I want the ARPG to dare to go a bit further than Diablo, and if I wanted to simply replay Diablo ad infinitum, then I'd be just as well served going with the originals.

I think and I hope that Krater is going to change things up. It puts focus everywhere that these two games do not. A living, interesting world, and a far more radical way to play an ARPG. If they manage to finish it in time, that's going to be something truly special.

I'm hoping for some of the same with Grim Dawn. At this point, neither Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2 has really rung my bell. You pretty much knew how it was gonna go before you even played them.

Told ya the game kicked butt.

It started growing on me the moment I fired it up. Diablo III didn't do that. I enjoy D3, but sometimes it is work to do so. I fell in love with Torchlight II right away.

I have mine preordered from Steam. Bought the four pack. Great for friends and family.

I am absolutely 100% fucking loving it.

Just hit the level cap with the Outlander, think I might try the Engineer next.

I think they've clearly done a lot of listening and looking at what people modded from the 1st game.

The inventory has been tweaked so that consumables no longer take up room in your main inventory.

Enchanting has been overhauled so individual enchanters can only enchant an item a couple of times, also there are a lot of enchanters scattered throughout the world which makes it worth fully exploring dungeons.

Torchlight was a bit on the easy side, so I put it on Veteran for T2 from the off, general mobs are still not particularly difficult, but when you come against a champion you're in for a decent fight. I might pump it up to the top difficulty level on the final release.

I like how they've overhauled the attribute points system, now all 4 categories have value for all classes rather than melee whoring up strength, ranged whoring up dexterity and mages whoring up magic. The impact of your choices is also plainly visible as you add the points rather than being invisible behind the scenes efforts.

There are now passive magic spells that give you boosts either permanently or in certain situations. Pretty cool since the slots aren't wasted if you're not a magic user. On my 1st T1 character I had a heal spell and an identify spell and the other 2 slots went pretty much unused, in T2 you can have a passive weapon booster in there instead of that Haste spell you never bother to use.

Lots more bosses. I haven't even finished the beta and I've already fought about as many bosses as there were in the 34 levels of the base T1 story mine. Infinite minion summon bosses do feel a bit cheap though, especially if your character doesn't really have any big AoE attacks to deal with large amounts of crap in addition to a hard hitting boss character with gigantic HP.

Loads more quests. Questing was rather dull in T1, kill a champion, collect a fancy piece of ember, fetch quests and only 3 quest givers. Questing is a bit more dynamic this time round with quest givers appearing out in the main world as well as in the hub area. It breaks stuff up a bit better than just proceeding down a mine for 34 levels.

Loads more weapons. There are 4 classes this time so you probably expect it, but I've mainly been using ranged weapons and in addition to the pistols, bows, crossbows and rifles from the 1st game there are also shotguns (or shotgonne's as they put it) and weird ass bazooka things.

Loads more monsters. In T1 the floors of the mine were themed and each themed area had its own set of mobs that you never really saw again if you didn't do map scrolls and hatch quests. In T2 there is a much bigger mix of mobs around, including human bandits this time. It's quite cool to move around the map and into the different territories of different kinds of mob. You can fight against multiple different sets of mobs in the space of 15 mins rather than fighting 1 set for hours.

Ember has changed, if only in the naming system I don't know, haven't seen a transmuter yet.

In the beta you're only allowed to respec up to level 10, I hope that changes, but even if it doesn't, it'll get modded in like it did with T1.

Not sure if I have anything else to say right now... Other than I'm thinking of dropping Diablo 3 now.

@Sadismek: You can still play it tomorrow. Got my key and completed the BETA today. Really liked it. Problem for me personally is that they didn't bother with the story again, doesn't catch me at all. Still an absolutely fantastic BETA. Makes you forget that is a BETA, actually.

It took about a day for them to get a beta key to me and then it was a pretty small download took me like half an hour to DL, maybe a slight bit longer.

I am so pre-purchasing this game. I kinda love it, also, I had the first one for Xbox. I really like the art style, and the gameplay feels smoother. Another point that I would like to make is that I love the classes. Engineer is my favourite by far.

Really good game, would recommend it.

I have spent a whole 15mins in game so far, and it is blowing me away.

This is how I expected to have reacted to Diablo III.

Torchlight II(feel better PB?), looks and feels fantastic. Cartoony, but that is consistant with the first one. I am level three and have, gasp!!, wait for it, skill trees to pick from. lol.

Lots of different pets to pick from, new classes. Fantasticly bright and colorful graphics. Bagh find out for yourself, I am going back to the game.

I am Oldergamer if anyone wants to join me in game.

PS this game offers singleplayer(offline), Lan, and multiplayer. What a concept. Tho offline is disabled for the beta. But you can lock your games for solo play.
