silk, buying a GFWL game on disc doesn't give you any rights to a downloadable copy like Steam or Origin.

The Marketplace is literally just a marketplace for buying things, you can't redeem products you bought elsewhere.

The actual GFWL part provides game updates and the Live overlay with achievements, friends etc.

I think it only shows you things you've bought off their digital store, or I'm missing something. I don't understand how games can come with GFWL yet apparently not actually be GFWL according to the client. It's not just crap, it' makes no actual sense. I also can't see anywhere to even register my CD key so I guess it's a disc install and login via the game? What are they smoking?

It's not meant to convenience you, it's meant to cater to the rampant paranoia held by a small number of corporate executives who don't play games, and as such will never see the fruits of their own detached ignorance.

GFWL is shit. It has always been shit. It will always be shit.

First time I had to use a GFWL game I had to restart the game itself about 4 times, purely to update the DRM, each one requiring me to log in again, like it never happened, in spite of all the boxes being checked.

After the third restart, I just didn't want to bother with the game. I had bought Dead Rising 2 on sale, and it was at least 6 months before I bothered to go back.

It's like the vengeful ghost of Windows Vista. NO GAMES FOR YOU.

There are a lot of rumors going around, at least enough to make me notice, that Microsoft are actually taking the piss by running the client itself on a very small team, who are generally busy doing entirely other things.

That means that no only is the client shit, and not only will it not get better, the developers who have the patches you need will have to wait at least a month for certification, because Microsoft could give less of a shit about providing you with an actual service.

I have bought / installed two games that register on GFWL so far, batman arkham city and Bioshock 2.

I had to log into GFWL to play them on my PC. So you'd think they'd be registered to my account.

But no. Or I'm being a newb somehow. On my laptop I installed the GFWL client, and the games aren't listed. What is this piece of poo? I don't understand the purpose of GFWL if you have to install off CD on every client?
