i recently bought that game too, but didnt play it much so far cos other games took the spot..
But im still going to continue it in the next days as if played through everything that came in my way since.

I did start the game directly on hard, which was propably more than i can chew at the moment.
iirc i played through the PS3 collection of the God of War PSP Games and theyve been a walk in the park on hard so i thought i could directly go on with LOS on hard.
Oh boy, was i wrong..
Ive been getting pounded several times in the first couple chapters. So much even that im thinking about going back to normal to get used to the game first..

But for the game itself i found it very nice so far.
I picked it up new for just 20 Euros and for that price its a bargain.

I get what you're saying Silk. I guess Metroid is kind of like the sci-fi version of Castlevania (that's what your description reminded me of anyway).

For fans of the old games I can see how LoS would seem sacrilegious, but I don't think that alone is reason to write it off. I've not been disappointed so far, and there aren't enough games that pose an actual challenge these days, so it gets +10 from me for that alone.

I'm trying to hold off playing Star Ocean Intl until I beat LoS.. why do I have to buy so many games?!? o_O

@Deacon

Not all the originals were great, if you were to try one now I'd say give any of the DS ones a run. They're all good and stuck to the proper formula.

My issue is that this game is nothing like any of them, at all. It's a different genre.. they were puzzle solving, sandbox 2D adventure worlds, which had automaps, bosses, upgrades, etc. It was fun to run around and find new stuff and secrets, and backtrack when you got new powers letting you get to newer places still.

This game however was literally just milking a cash cow / licence abuse. I mean it's even westernised for God's sake.

Definitely a challenging game, and all the better for it. The combat is really tight, and there's very specific tactics for each section of the game. None of the combat moves go to waste.

It's also gorgeous to look at, which is always a nice bonus.

[double post]

Ouch!! Quite an irksome response their dude!

I definitely played through a Castlevania on both the NES and SNES and while they're good it's not a series I hold up on a plateau.

Ignoring the fact it has the Castlevania name, did you not enjoy it at all?

Thanks JM. I had heard it gets better later on. I'm not the kind of guy to revert to Easy, so it may take a while..

And I had no memorable issues with the frame rate monkeygourmet (I'm on the PS3 version) - at least none that have affected the outcome of a battle.

Not sure how many other combos and skills open up but I certainly don't have the currency to buy them all at the moment. This has made me think about tactics, positioning, and timing WAY more than I ever did back when I played God of War 3.

My difficulty was accepting that this pile of poo came out with the much beloved Castlevania name. IT IS NOT CASTLEVANIA IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. I felt so cheated, so dirty. It's a bloody generic action game. It's like taking syndicate or shadowrun and turning them into shooters instead of the much loved genre they're supposed to be.

Oh wait, that happened too.

Meh way to dilute an IP. If only it had actually been a HD castle romping, upgrade seeking, boss whacking adventure. If only. /rant over.

I found it very difficult. I felt there were too many enemies that had the ability to do 'knock down' moves, which became very fustrating.

Also that fact the frame rate was so choppy (360 version installed to the HD) and only 30fps at best really made me struggle.

Switched difficulty to easy and am still only 3/4 of the way through...

Didn't help that i started Dante's Inferno at the same time. Even though i love the Castlevania franchise, i much prefered the silky 60fps of Dante's when in combat.

I also felt their was too much to remember in LOS, puzzles are fun but because so many pick up specials required so many different combinations i just kept for getting to use some items in combat...

Still, a cool game, just think a sequel could be alot better!

Sorry, no tips from this end because i clearly suck at this game! :)

Stick with it. The first 3 levels are actually pretty average. Then the game quality ramps up to some seriously great levels.

Is it just me or is this game actually pretty tough? I'm only playing on normal but my god if you're not on-the-ball with the combat you just get ripped apart!

It's been a while since I played a game of this type and I can't tell if it's my lack of familiarity with the genre or if I'm generally just playing like a n00b.

That aside, I'm also surprised at how long the game is. I'm only 3 'levels' in and there seems to be like 10? Each world has 3 or 4 stages therein and they all look fantastic as you explore through.

I wasn't expecting multiple routes either and while it pains me that I might have missed something, it helps make the levels feel less linear.

Seems that some backtracking through levels is needed in order to get all power-ups etc... does anyone have any advice on this or any other aspect?
