I am hating the mat system didn't know I picked up a MMO and have to craft to upgrade weapons and armors. The constant need for orens and mats is really starting to grind my gears. I am not playing Farmville for fucks sake.

Loving it. One of my favourite games ever, so far. (Minus the occasional technical issue, but they'll work those out anyways).

The whole package just seems like a labour of love; just looking at everything they include with the regular retail version... It's great.

@Youngzero

Those occasions when you arn't attacking or not blocking, isn't due to buttons reacting late, it's basically due to being out of vigor. Vigor is the yellow blocks that are used for casting spells, but it is also used (some people seem to be unaware of this) for blocking and other special attacks. But yeah the stealth part was the worst part.

The only downside i have seen so far is the combat. Once you've figured out how the combat works and what you should be aware of, it's really just mashing buttons.

I bet i'm not alone on this when i say that it got it's problems, whenever i press a button it reacts a little bit too late. Like pulling out my sword, or when i attack, he stands for a few seconds before attacking. I can't count how many times i was trying to throw a dagger only to have the witcher stand for 2 seconds straight and do nothing.

Oh and the stealth-parts are horrible.

@Len

It follows all RPG aspect as the 90's with the grinding, farming etc with some new modern things like minimap telling you were things are like quest giver and some quest objectives.

If you want the upgrades with armor or weapons you not only need orens (currency) but also have to collect items throughout the game. TO get orens you will have to do arm wrestling, fist fighting and side quests because the main quests offer little to no reward. SO you have to put in time for that. I wouldn't recommend trying to beat the game with crap gear you start with... This is by no means a Bioware or Bathesda RPG.

So I'm really really tempted by this (after reading the reviews) as the setting and more action orienated gameplay appeals.

Thing is I never can manage to get in to rpg's, always start and get a bit bored/disinterested. Saying that though I absolutely loved Demon's Souls last year which surprised me.

Do you think I'd enjoy this or is it way too rpgey if that makes sense...?

Never had this problem before, but this game engine is freakin heavy on my 580 GTX. It should not be that way. I dunno.

Erth whats your rig like?? What settings are you playing the game on??

My system:

Q9650 3.0 Ghz Quad core
NVidia GTX 295
6Gb OCZ RAM

Running this game on high with AA turned off at 1920*1080, its pretty smooth but I still get a few hiccups here and there. Ultra settings are laggy as hell, still looks fantastic on high though. Had to use the NVidia latest beta drivers, at first I had bad stuttering problems on WHQL drivers.

That maybe true on the earlier levels (running around in circles ftw, am I right?), but where I am in the game it's bloody hard. Plus it's very difficult to exploit the bosses in the game with such tactics, as it pretty much only allows you to do it one way or die. The Kayran had me stuck for ages trying to get it just right.

I wouldn't go as far as claiming WItcher 2 as Hardcore, the battle system is very easy to exploit (once you figure it out), just drink a potion and press left or right click with occasional spacebar depending how many mobs there are.

Wow you guys took that really personally, I wasn't trying to offend, I was only stating the facts. DA2 is a button mash RPG and The Witcher 2 is more tactical RPG (hardcore RPG). I only compared the two because you two suggested you weren't enjoying the game because of the difficulty. If what I said sounded harsh I apologise.

And by the way I also loved Dragon Age 2, I thought the story was really engaging and awesome. Although the combat was easy, it was very fun, and the story had me to the very end. I racked up 50 hours of gametime on Raptr just so you know :).

I heard that you have to read the manual rather than depends entirely with in-game tutorial! A lot of people (including some reviewer out there) thought that the battle was wonky and feel unpolished, but the manual explained how the battle system works so that we're not going to button mashing fiesta or queueing button press (to conserve vigor/stamina) and play with more planning before encountering foes out there!
edit: dralen have mentioned it before! Sorry!!

@Dralen

Uncalled for. I like a good rpg next to any guy. But in order to make a game fun it has to follow 3 rules; engaging to the audience, easy learn/hard to master and fun. CD Projekt missed the mark on the 2nd part especially for those that think it will be an evolution of the original system not a fucking rehaul and piss in the wind mentality. The game did not explain that potions can only be used prior to combat, really its a sink or swim attitude.

"I suggest you go and play Dragon Age 2."

I have and I enjoyed the hell out of the game, if you meant that to be an insult you failed. This whole DA2 vs WItcher 2 shit needs to stop its pointless its comparing applesauce to apple jam. Same fruit but very different tastes. Luckly I enjoy both of them. Don't derail the thread because you felt your honor was offended because someone said something bad about your precious Witcher 2. You don't work for CD Projekt nor do you own any of their stock. They don't need you defending them.

It does explain it. I haven't read the user manual once, tutorial pop-up's appear every couple of minutes at the start of the game, you just have to read them is all. However, I do agree it is a very tough and challenging game and it will take you a while to master it, but that is one of the things that make it so great. If you don't like it I suggest you go and play Dragon Age 2.

@Hunam

"The game really does have some issues at the start with the combat system throwing you in the deep end and not doing a very good job at explaining anything at all."

I agree its a sink or swim mentality I had to look at the user manual to get how combat,potions, and all that work on getting better even then I had to put the difficulty to medium to get through it on the skin of my teeth especially when you have to fight 4 guys, 2 unarmored and 2 armored.

It'd be nice if you know, we knew this and the game said, oh hey, you don't have enough vigor instead of just not doing something.

:|

The game really does have some issues at the start with the combat system throwing you in the deep end and not doing a very good job at explaining anything at all. My first hour of the game was just constant dying and reloading. Really not fun at all so far.

"No PS3 or 360 will ever achieve visuals like in Witcher 2"

I'm fairly certain that the game is coming to the consoles at some point.

Some of you have said how the controls are unresponsive such as block. Just to let you know, you are wrong. It's not that they are unresponsive, it's because you're vigor is low and you cannot block as quickly compared to when your vigor is high.

PS. This is definitely one of the best RPG's I have ever played, that metacritic score is well deserved.

And also, I'm using my 360 controller too. It just feels right with this game, although some things are obviously better with the mouse like going through the menu, map, and inventory.

The walking around feels really good, the controls are tight and the character feels like hes got some weight.

When I put it back on later im going to drink more potions like erth says, I hadn't used a single one so far. Mabey thats why I get killed alot LOL.

This is the first game ive been able to get into in weeks. I had Crysis 2 campain on yesterday and I had to turn it off, it just felt rubbish. Im sick of the 'normal' go here, shoot this, blow something up. Im sick of annoying NPC voices too, this game has none of those.

In The Witcher there's a sign that boosts your defence which the game suggests is ideal for sneaking in a potion (since attacking cancels the spell). Dunno if there's a similar thing in the sequel but might be worth looking into if you're having trouble.

"FINALLY, A GAME WOT I LIKE"
Starring Erthazus as ZOMFG1

Hahaha... just kidding bro    :)

Very jealous of any and all of you that have the rig to do this fine game justice.

I will likely never play it, so someone be good and tell me what happens at the end of Chatper 1...?
