Despite contrary belief that I am some sort of Xbot due to my regular open criticism of Sony and a lack of interest in a number of their key franchises (God of War, Killzone, Resistance), I do not, in fact, have any preference for any format.

At all.

It depends entirely on the games being released at the time, and nothing more.

When LittleBigPlanet 2 was released, you couldn't get me away from my PS3 for almost a month straight. MotorStorm Apocalypse has been keeping my quite happy as well lately.

Numerous multi-platform titles and Kinect games have kept my turning on my 360 on a regular basis.

Since Pokemon Black and White came out, my DS has been in my hands practically everywhere I go.

With Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Dissidia Duedecim and FFIV: The Complete Collection, my PSP has barely been out of my hands for less than a few moments in the past six months

When Civilisation V was released on the PC...

You get the point.

I don't have a gaming "poison". I never have, and I never will. I don't see the point.

PS3 here.
mostly due to free online, bluray, exclusives and legacy.
im not gaming so much that it would be worth having both platforms.
dealing with pc problems is my job, so i cba to sit even more on the desk and having to worry about which components i need to upgrade next or why in all hell this piece of fuckware isnt working as it should.
i dont want to worry about those things in my freetime, hence console for me.
i might upgrade my rig for bf3 though..

would love to see new consoles asap.

I don't have a problem going back and forth to be honest. Both are now fully internalised now so it's just like riding a bike or driving a car. I don't need to think about it in either case.

Going back and forth from pad to mouse is strange. There's basically no deadzone on a mouse and the sensitivity is so much higher, plus you've got so much more control vs a stick it's a bit of a shock when the very slightest movements are so responsive. But it quickly goes from weird to awesome.

I'd say that pads make everything feel heavier than they should while the mouse probably makes them lighter.

Yeah, that's the problem, it's do or die. But it took me longer to get used to FPS on consoles than PC. Though games have this odd mouse acceleration problem creeping into games right now making some FPS games a bit wonky on the PC without ini hacks. I don't think BF3 will have that problem though. it's usually reserved to broken console ports and some valve games for some reason.

Can you handle the KB/Mouse for playing FPS games day?

I play PC most, but can't use KB/Mouse to save my life in a FPS game. I have to play those on xbLive. I know blaspheme for a PC gamer, but its true. Too many buttons/Keys and too hard to control and see what I am doing.

For the last year and a half I've mostly been an xbox gamer, but I'm transitioning back to PC.

I'm in two minds whether or not to renew my Live sub atm.

I like the flexibility of PC. Most games these days let me choose my input method, on top of that I have a 1080p display, it's nice to see games running at full 1080p. Also like that software costs me less.

@ Deacon
Sure, there's some. Good Old Games can be one solution. Though paying a second time for a game I already own, no matter how cheap, can be a little annoying.

I guess another side of the PC that appeals to me is the openness of the platform. So if a game doesn't run, maybe there's a patch that will fix it. Or maybe there's some information on the internet that says "tweak this file and it'll run". Or maybe it's a popular enough game that gamers have tweaked and fixed to run on newer hardware (Starcraft - there's heaps of fixes for colour and higher resolution issues). Failing that, I can always run a virtual machine, slap on Windows 98 and try it through that. Or for really really ancient stuff like ZZT (from the guy who went on to build Unreal Engine) there's DOSBox. And after all that, I might just learn that I can play Monkey Island in my web browser.

I don't get too upset if there's a game I can't get to run. I don't think any gamer today is short of good games to play.

Steam tends to be 10% cheaper than retail at any given time over here. The only one beating their prices is Amazon. The christmas sales are just insane.

The times were you had to upgrade your rig yearly are over since the mid 90s. I don't know why people keep saying that. I have my i7 since two years now and can still play my games on max.

@Dr Damn, it looks better in reality. Honest.

It was also practical and well priced for what it offered. Came with 3 fans, fixings for 3 more. External controls for each group of fans (I learned a lot on PC cooling during this building process). Heaps of front-facing USB and SATA2 sockets. If I'm honest, I bought it as much about functions as well as how it'd look (my monitor, keyboard and speakers that I was keeping from my earlier PC were all black too). Either way, I'm going to for a really boring but easy-to-build-with case next time. I never want to open this case ever again.

@Deacon, I like my old games just as much, if not more than, the bleeding-edge stuff. Crysis 2 is pretty but I expect I'll go back to Planescape Torment with more enthusiasm when reviewing my collection. So, for me, the longevity of the system is pretty much assured even if it starts to wheeze and splutter over newer stuff in the years to come. Plus, you know, MAME. ;)

@ Kerplunk - I can completely see the value in investing in a system like that. People make out like you have to throw hundreds of pounds into your rig every year to keep it up-to-date but I guess that's not the case if you really think about what you're putting together in the first place.

Picking up on what StolenGlory said about PC games price is also another reason why I like the PC. New games are like just over £20 which is much more tempting to dip into and even if I'm still on the fence, a Steam sale will help out.

I've got a PS3, Xbox and a PC and I spend about an equal time on all three of them. I couldn't live without either one of them, maybe that's a little over dramatic, but if one of them died on me I would instantly have to replace it.

PS3. Seemed a natural step-up from the PS2. Also, Metal Gear Solid 4 :) I haven't had any regrets; the current (well, was current)online functionality suits me just fine, I don't have qualms about the controller, I love its media capabilities (and the fact the hard drive is so easy to change), and I am grateful for its support of Logitech wheels (which should be the only mechanism allowed for playing GT5). Of course, I don't think I'd love it as much if it weren't for the wide-ranging and brilliant exclusives... just imagine a world without LittleBigPlanet, The Last Guardian and Uncharted. I don't know about you, but I would not want to live in that world. :)

Deacon, just shy of 4 figures.

Which is a lot of dough. But I consider it a long-term investment. I want a PC to last me 5 years or longer. That cost, spread over 5 years, runs to quite a modest amount per day. My PC also acts as my DLNA media server which streams stuff to my TVs, consoles and even Wifi radio. So I get value from it every single day in some way.

One thing I learned from building my PC. Don't go for a sexy case. They look nice but if they have some sort of non-standard bit (like screwless fixtures) it can be a nightmare to get your components settled in properly. After all the swearing is over, it does look rather nice though. :)

I'm a PS3/PC gamer more leaning towards the PC nowadays.
I think i favour the PS over the Xbox because a, my favourite games are - or rather were- PS exclusives back in the day and b, Microsoft made extreme marketing mistakes in continental Europe at launch (i.e. charging ~500€ for a Xbox while a PS2 costed ~220€) and didn't offer any exclusives that interested me.

I guess the reason why I slowly migrated towards the PC since the end of the PS2 era is that the vast majority of my friends are PC exclusive gamers. The fact that back then my MMO phase kicked in accelerated that.

Today I usually play Western Rpgs (for the mod community)and manshoots (because of my friends)on PC and Action Adventures/ console exclusives on Ps3.
Oh and I occasionally use my sis' Wii for the usual Nintendo titles.

I'll never abandon consoles completly though, not as long as games like Metal Gear and Uncharted come out and shoddy PC ports are plaguing the industry.

Own a 360, PS3, Mac, iPad and 3DS for gaming. Preference is generally for the 360 - due to gaming with friends, controller and general performance of cross platform titles. I do still like a lot about my PS3 though. It still manages to maintain some of the better aspects I loved about PS1 and PS2 - the quirkier games, the Japanese influence and for me more interesting exclusives. I am looking for Sony to learn a lot from this generation though.

That's a bloody good point actually and in fact is something that I should have mentioned in my original post, in that one of the things that I really like about the PC as a gaming platform, is just how versatile it is.

Kerplunk, give us a ballpark figure on how much your new rig has cost you?

I'd love to get back into PC gaming.

PC for me. Especially in the last few years where it's become very easy to play games on it with the comfort of a console - output to a big TV, plug in my USB controller and have the buttons already sensibly mapped by the game, sit on the sofa and enjoy. I get to play AAA-blockbusters, intriguing indie games, endless flash games and indulge in oldskool emulation should the urge take me. The versatility is where it comes into its own. And having built my new PC recently, I'm enjoying the honeymoon period where I can put all the settings up to MAX and and feel smug about the silly amount of money I just spent on a gfx card.

I have all the consoles and handhelds too as I don't want to miss out on a game I want to play if I can help it. I've always used simple math to determine when I buy a new machine: If the hardware costs 300 bucks, then I'm not going to buy it until there's 300 bucks worth of games I consider a 'must have' for it.

Oh god. My preferences are hugely fickle buuuut, I primarily split my time between the 360, PS3 and PC as it currently stands (with some PSP love on the side now that Tactics Ogre just came through my letterbox).

I've actually been equally dividing my time as of late between the PS3 and 360. I've been ploughing in a shitload of time on the God Of War Collection and Yakuza 3 in particular for the machine and I guess this outlines the reason why the PS3 is such a robust staple of my gaming diet; I love many of the exclusives for the console and find a great deal of compelling and enjoyable experiences in them for the most part. Games such as Uncharted 2, God Of War 3, the Yakuza games and Demon Souls really validate the ownership and repeated use of the machine in my eyes. The PS3 is also my de-facto choice for fighting games too - simply because A) The default pad IMHO is naturally better suited to the accurate sweeping motions demanded by so many contemporary fighting games and B) Because... well, i'm a tight-ass and can't be farked to buy a fightpad/stick.

As far as the 360 goes, it's this platform that gets pretty much all of my online love. I have a large number of friends who play a lot of multiplayer FPS's on the console and whilst the PC would *normally* be my first choice for the genre, with the 360 I find the Live service highly accessible and very robust for the most part.

Additionally, while I find the PS3 pad to be superior for fighting games, for me at least, I find that the 360 commands a similar advantage with it's pad for FPS titles. Specifically it's the positioning of the analogue sticks which just makes moving, strafing and shooting a lot easier than trying to pull it off on Sony's machine. The other thing which keeps the 360 high in the attention stakes for me is the hugely substantial Xbox Live Arcade offering - with titles like Limbo, Trials HD, Shadow Complex and many, many more being a definite highlight for me.

And finally my PC. Up until recently my PC was pretty much the go-to machine for World Of Warcraft and nothing else, but, with a fairly solid line-up of games coming in the Witcher 2, Battlefield 3 and Diablo 3 I can certainly see it becoming a mainstay in my gaming diet pretty quickly indeed. Another reason I like my PC as a gaming platform, is the wealth of gaming experiences available on Steam, not to mention the fact that in regards to multiplatform RPG's such as Dragon Age, Fallout and TES, the PC version almost always outperforms it's console counterparts and retails at a much more wallet friendly pricepoint.

I could ramble on for hours about this, but I guess at the end of the day you could say that depsite my appreciation of multiple platforms, I remain a devout fanboy. A rabid one. I am a fanboy of good games with the lumps of heated plastic which power them coming a distant second in my gaming preferences and as such I go wherever the good games are and this far, the 360, PS3 and PC have satiated my need in this regard quite suiccently indeed.

Roll on E3 and beyond!

I've always been a PC fan first and formost because well.. I grew up on the PC and I much prefer a nice clear, high resolution picture and mouse and keyboard. But as PC ports the last few years have been fucking shit I've tended towards the 360 has it has the best social options and smoother online play, plus I prefer the 360 pad for most games and all my friends are on the 360. The PS3 still gets a look in, actually the last few months I've favoured the PS3 because I've completed all my 360 games, the quality of PC ports is raising ever so slightly at the moment and the 360 lacks exclusives which the PS3 has in droves, so I've been spending time going back to those great games, also I like MK9 and I can't play that with the dpad on the 360. The Wii sometimes gets a look in, but the fact that it's not at least 720p kinda sucks.

So yeah. Though the 360 will probably make a come back with LA Noire, but Witcher 2, Brink and Duke will keep me on the PC most of the time.
