@Boris Fett
"The dream world felt like it could have been far more visually out there than it was."

I think the bits which could be were fantastical enough - but that's the key, for the most part they had to make the dreams believable and real - aside from limbo.

The only parts which didn't really hang so well with me were the overarching reason for the work they were doing - global mega corps and energy etc, and the not being able to get back to the US to see your kids. With the power he had to move around the rest of the world why not just get them out and into a country where you can usefully hide.

Nolan doesn't do sequels unless of course its the batman franchise. So you don't have to worry about that.

Just got back from seeing this at the cinema the cinema. My personal thoughts? (Don't worry, it's spoiler free, although its a total wall of text, so I'll be surprised / impressed if it gets read in its entirety by many people.)

It's good. It certainly isn't bad. The story's direction and eventual conclusion was ultimately predictable right from the beginning (an unfortunate side-effect of currently popular story-telling conventions), but the way in which the characters reached that eventual conclusion certainly wasn't.

On an emotional level, Inception felt like it was a far simpler movie than it could have been, or should have been. I simply do not buy into the main character's "closure" near the end of the movie. I might just need to mull over it more, but something felt like it was missing there - a concrete and acceptable answer, a believable reason.

There was so much more room for the supporting character to grow, but for the most part, It seemed to me that they served little purpose to the story beyond being a convenient means to push the plot in the direction that it needed to go. This is a poor use of a supporting case. They're meant to support you, not carry you.

The dream world felt like it could have been far more visually out there than it was. What they did show was well conveyed, but I always had the nagging feeling in my minds eyes that there could have been so much more to it, so much more untapped potential for the idea.

Then again, dreams are an extremely complex concept and are, by their very nature, infinite in possibilities, so maybe it's simply something that could never been satisfactorily expressed in the visual medium, because of our own personal knowledge and experiences of the world of dreams. Sandman did it better, that's all I say.

I found the best imagery was in the starting half of the movie, the most diverse and intriguing. The biggest let down was the army base. It felt like an entirely contrived and unoriginal metaphor.

The acting of the ensemble cast was solid despite their lack of influence and emotional involvement with the story, and DeCaprio has always been a great performer... in the right roles. This was one of those roles.

I hope there isn't a sequel, simply because I *want* that ending to be left open to interpretation. It's one of the best movie endings I've seen in quite a while, and it is the one part of the movie that will be remembered by all who watch it. It is the one truly defining and perfectly realised moment of the whole movie.

Everyone will be discussing *that* one moment after watching this film. There's no doubt about that.

I knw most of us who watched the film are still unsure about what the ending meant, but this FAQ in IMDb gives what is for me, the closest to a definitive answer.

Excellent bit of cinema, was worried it might not live up to the 'hype' but it is genuinely brilliant.

Strong acting throughout and satisfying ending too.

Yep fantastic film. Best I've seen in a long, long time. Leaves you gobsmacked trying to piece things together with a big grin on your face. Loved it.

Have a feeling on closer inspection or a second watch some plot holes might appear but you really don't have time to question much as the film goes by - too busy trying to keep up :D

Watched it today...
Original, ambitious, spectacular, mindblowing are just some of the words i'd bestow on this brilliant film (brilliant being another)

BEST OF ALL though... it featured Mombasa. y is Mombasa so special u may ask? Well it is only my hometown. U shld hav seen the grin on my face when the British guy (shame i cnt remember his name rite now) said "I know a guy in Mombasa"... I wanted to shout: "That's MY FUCKING HOMETOWN!" :D

All in all, I think it's safe to say Chris Nolan can add Inception to his ever increasing list of fantastic films...

Amazing film. Best thing I've seen in years and has some truly gob-smacking special effects to match the superb plot.

I was enjoying it and hoping they wouldn't have some cheap ending. As it turned out the last scene is absolutely perfect. Some people in the cinema actually gasped!

I can't see this being bad at all.

Nolan is a genius! Even his worth movies are damn good (Insomnia) and his best are outstanding (Prestige, Dark Knight).

It's also got DiCaprio that's been pretty much amazing in every thing since The Departed (Revolutionary Road especially). Joseph Gordan Levitt carried 500 Days of Summer brilliantly.

If I weren't going to Latitude on the day of release I'd be booking for day one right now!
