Disney to have a look at whether its games could be deemed as violent

Disney

Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger said during a HRTS Newsmakers Luncheon this week the company would look into whether any of its video game offerings could be deemed as violent. Iger admitted there is “very little” violent content created at Disney, but said the company would take “stock in everything we’ve got that can be considered near or over the line.” Iger stated further he wanted to make sure Disney was asking the right questions in terms of its content and remain “part of a dialogue in today’s world that I think is pretty necessary in terms of what our role is and what our role should be.” Thanks: GI International. Connecticut town cancels plan to collect and destroy violent video games

southington CT town seal

The Violent Video Games Return Program, a community initiative started by representatives from Southington, CT, has been cancelled by its organizers. The program would have allowed residents to trade-in their violent games for $25 a gift certificate donated by the Greater Southington Chamber of Commerce. According to Polygon, a spokesman said the January 12 event would have created an “unnecessary amount of logistical details,” but the group will still hand out certificates to parents who had a chat with their children about violent games as a goodwill measure. The initiative was created in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings, which took place 30 miles from Newtown, CT on December 14.
