This week’s North American PlayStation Store update is absolutely chock a block with new games and DLC, with the first wave of PS4 content dropping but loads of stuff for the PS3 and Vita, too.

This week, North American PlayStation Plus subscribers receive a couple of PS3 games for their Instant Collections – Xbox launch shooter Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, and Binary Domain, a science-fiction shooter from Yakuza Studio with an interesting character disposition system and optional voice controls. No PS4 content, alas, but there’s a discount on Worms 2: Armageddon, which is nice. For more details, visit the PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation 4 launched in the US and Canada last night, and it was followed by thousands of gamers rushing to download the console’s day one 1.50 firmware update. The rush has caused PSN outages in some quarters, with Sony asking players for their patience while it resolves the issue.

Sony has updated the European end of the PlayStation Store with Adventure Time: Explore The Dungeon Because I Don’t Know, Ratchet and Clank: Nexus, Velocity Ultra, Wonderbook: Walking With Dinosaurs and more. There’s also some DLC for Beyond: Two Souls available, and a video for it is included in the full update below.

PlayStation 4 users will have to pay for online multiplayer in the next-generation, and Sony’s Eric Lempel has stressed that this necessity comes from the explosive growth of both PSN and PS Plus. It’s becoming a bigger investment for the company, so it has to make more out of it essentially.

Sony is allowing digital retailers freedom to launch their own PSN store-fronts, starting with Amazon. The retailer has now opened its PSN shop in the States as an alternative outlet for digital PlayStation content.
