Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains was the first on stage at Ubisoft’s E3 2013 presentation to talk about Rocksmith 2014 Edition. The musician was seen issuing voice commands to use Session Mode, a new feature, allowing him to load up a virtual band and play along with them. Rocksmith 2014 Edition is due in October. Alice in Chains will be featured on the tracklist. A trailer and Session Mode demo are available below, along with more details.

Mousechief has released historical digital board game 7 Grand Steps, which seems to have lost its subtitle What Ancients Begat since last time we looked at it. It’s priced at $15, but it’s 10% off on Steam or DRM free on both platforms directly through the developer. A demo is available for Mac and PC. Mousechief was also responsible for the rather excellent Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble.

Indie Royale and Arcen Games have released the Arclight Bundle, which starting at $5.43 nets you PC and Mac keys on Steam and Desura for: A Valley Without Wind, A Valley Without Wind 2, Shattered Haven, Tidalis, and AI War: Fleet Command. The later contains all four expansions released, and promises the fifth – the upcoming Vengeance of the Machine available in beta and playable for bundle owners. If you pay $8 or more you will also get nine original soundtracks by Arcen composer Pablo Vega along with the Deorbit album from Disasterpeace. EA Maxis has pushed back the OS-X port of SimCity, saying it needs a little more time in the oven. Meanwhile, the PC version still seems to be in the mixing bowl, with the next update addressing a bunch of issues and features.

Dota 2 has been updated, but it’s not one of those charming patches with an obvious major feature or tweak. Instead, it’s jam-packed with a huge number of nerfs, buffs and other rebalancing foolery; the full patch notes are available on Steam for those able to parse the dense thicket of information.

The Sims 3 has gained a new piece of DLC called Dragon Valley, available via the in-game store. The $25 pack adds a new storyline about rival families and includes baby dragons as well as a slew of medieval-themed costumes and the like. Hmm. If you’re keen to recreate Game of Thrones – even after last night’s episode – then perhaps you’ll enjoy the trailer through the break.

In this age of slick, seamless interfaces and accessible RPG systems, it’s hard to imagine younger gamers coping with the cumbersome menus and complicated systems of old school games. Wasteland 2 has a heck of a challenge in providing the complexity its backers demand while not actually delivering the confusing morass they’ve forgotten ever existed. This preview video shows how InXile Entertainment is tackling the problem and provides excellent fodder for complaining that things aren’t like they used to be and/or not innovative enough.
