360 Rage version wil suffer visually from compression, says Carmack

According to this Shacknews report, John Carmack said at QuakeCon today that the 360 version of Rage will suffer visually because of the compression requirements of squeezing the game onto two DVDs.

According to Carmack, the royalty fees to include a third disc in the Xbox 360 version would be so high that it simply isn’t a feasible solution. The id head apparently said he’s hoping for Microsoft to make a concession on the matter.

There’s some stuff in there on id Tech 6, Carmack’s opinion on the length of the current console cycle and more. Nothing earth-shattering from the look of it, but it’s John Carmack, so that’s fine. Take a look.

There are some new screens on Joystiq as well.

quakecon.JPG

id announced QuakeCon 2008 last night, which is now confirmed to be running from July 31 to August 3 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

We know someone that made the effort to get there last year and loved every second: QuakeCon really is supposed to be worth it, so do consider the trip, journo types.
