Gamescom 2011 hits 275,000 attendees
Koelnmesse’s announced this evening that this year’s gamescom hit 275,000 attendees in the five days the show took place.

GDC Europe 2011 attracts 2,100 attendees, returns next year
The 2011 European Games Developers Conference concluded yesterday and official figures show the three-day event attracted 2,100 game professionals representing 57 countries. In all, the conference played host to over 170 speakers and 46 exhibitors.
The show is set to return to Cologne next year, August 13-15 2012.

Vita devkits cost much less than kits for PSP and PS3
It looks as through developers interested in creating games for PS Vita won’t have to spend as much on devkits as when developing for PS3 or PSP.

IGF Chairman: We have a responsibility to support indie games

Silent Hill Downpour director says they’re doing fine without composer Yamaoka
Silent Hill fans were worried when the latest project lost its long-time, greatly respected composer Akira Yamaoka, but the game’s design director says that they’re getting along just fine without him.

MercurySteam CEO to give GDC Europe keynote
MercurySteam CEO Enric Alvarez is to give a keynote at GDC Europe, organisers ThinkServices has announced this morning. Alvarez will give a post-mortem of the Spanish studio’s development on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, in which he will “share surprising and inspiring insights into how to create not one, but several AAA video game projects from a small studio in Spain.”
GDC Europe happens from August 14-16 in Cologne alongside gamescom.
