LittleBigPlanet is not region-locked, OK?

littlebigplaneta21.jpg

Despite this CVG story apparently confirming that gamers will only be able to download LittleBigPlanet levels specific to their home region, Sony has moved to assure all those frantic with worry that this is, in fact, not the case.

“As many of you may have heard already in an interview at Leipzig the senior producer for LittleBigPlanet announced that the game is region locked,” said SCE developer “Sam,” speaking on the EU PlayStation boards.

“This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide. The confusion arose out of regional differences in how moderation will work as there are different legal rules each region have to play by, and at one point this looked like it may require the game to be independent in each region – however this has been worked around and there will only be one region for the game…. a LittleBigRegion.”

So there we are.

2008 Home release “100%” guaranteed

home6.jpg

Home producer Martijn Van Der Meulen told IGN at GC this week that the online PS3 feature will definitely hit this year. From the piece:

First and foremost, Meulen told me (without hesitation) that it is a 100 percent guarantee that Home will be released by the end of this calendar year. He has absolutely no doubt that this will be the case, so it looks like the long wait to come Home is finally reaching its conclusion. Meulen also assured me, quite adamantly, that Home will always be a free service — only premium content will need to be purchased. I know some gamers were concerned that once Home reached a certain user base, a fee might be applied to the service, but this is not the case. Meulen says that there are no plans to charge for Home, even in the far future.

Plenty more through there.

Chances of PS3 Left 4 Dead “50-50″

left4dead10.jpg

According to this CVG story, Valve’s Doug Lombardi said at Games Convention this week that there’s still a “50-50″ chance of a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead coming out. Don’t expect to see it any time soon, whatever happens.

“There’s zero chance of it happening this year,” he said. “It’s something that’s being talked about right now as the game is gaining popularity and looking like it’s going to be a hit.”

Prospect of StarCraft MMO “overwhelming” and “scary”

starcraftii9.jpg

Speaking to Videogamer at Games Convention this week, Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce has said that the thought of putting out a StarCraft MMO is a little daunting.

“We’ve made it very difficult for ourselves and it’s an overwhelming thought,” he said.

“I’ve been there at Blizzard since we started on WoW and it’s been a very long and arduous journey. And to think about taking that journey again with the StarCraft franchise is a little scary. It makes an RTS like Starcraft 2 seem very achievable.”

That’s not happening, then. More through the link.

Pete Smith, who oversees operations at Media Molecule said: “We’ve got regional servers, but we can move levels around on servers whenever we want. But you won’t have access to the Japanese servers.”

Sega is “working with ratings board” on Mad World

Sega has said during a presentation at Games Convention earlier today that the company is “working with ratings boards” making sure Wii slasher, Mad World, makes it through adjudication process.

“Yes, it’s violent,” admitted Sega marketing man David Corless.

“We don’t try to hide that, but as publishers, we see it as a fantasy game – it’s fantasy violence. It’s over the top. It’s cartoony.”

“We also take the violence very seriously,” he went on. “We are working with the age rating boards, with PEGI and with BBFC. We’re not at the end of the game’s development, but we’re working with them now to make sure that we don’t go over the top.

“The game has been banned in Germany; there’s no getting around that unfortunately. But we are taking it seriously and we’re going to make sure that this game is rated for the appropriate audience,” he said.

Thanks, CVG.

TF2 360 updates coming later this year, says Valve

According to Valve’s Doug Lombardi, all of the current Team Fortress 2 updates available on Steam will make their way to 360 before the end of the year, reports Kotaku.

The site claims Valve wants to wait a bit longer and release a massive update for 360 owners instead of the incremental ones delivered to PC gamers.

Lombardi apparently said all this after a Left 4 Dead presentation at Games Convention.

“Portal: Still Alive is extra challenges with a disregard for story”

Joystiq has taken a look at XBLA title Portal: Still Alive, and has said that the game is just “extra challenges with a disregard for story.”

From the piece:

If your wish for Portal: Still Alive is extra challenges with a disregard for story than this Arcade release is exactly what you want as it controls as well as it ever has with an Xbox 360 controller. However, if the realization that the additional content will solely be based on gameplay with a complete disregard for an additional story then Still Alive may have you worried that the Portal train is making an unnecessary stop on Microsoft’s Arcade.
