Microsoft is set to unveil its new Xbox console next week, but it is apparently saving some of its big software announcements for E3 as the console reveal is serving as foundation laying so to speak.

Every year when E3 is announced, the subject of whether it is still relevant or not seems to come up. This year is no different, and according to Entertainment Software Association senior vice president of communications Rich Taylor, the event is relevant enough to be slated for the Los Angeles Convention Center through 2016.

GDC Europe 2013 session submission up 25%, 275 talks being considered
GDC Europe organizers have announced the 2013 show will has had 275 talks submitted for the event, which is up 25% on last year’s total. While the first lectures will be announced later this week, those wishing to attend should know that registration is now open. GDC Europe takes place August 19-21 in Cologne, Germany – just ahead of Gamescom which takes place August 21- 25.

Konami posts FY13 financial results, to “promote Metal Gear” series at E3
Konami has posted its financial results for the year ending March 31, 2013 posting an overall decrease in net revenues of 15% year-over-year to ¥2.3 billion ($23 million). However, its Digital Entertainment division posted an increase of 17.1% year-over- year of ¥1.5 billion ($15 million) compared to ¥1.2 billion ($12 million) the prior year.

Microsoft to reveal “next chapter of Xbox gaming experiences,” at Gamescom
Microsoft plans to reveal the “next chapter of Xbox gaming experiences,” at Gamescom in August, according to Xbox EMEA’s Graeme Boyd. This marks the return of MS at the Cologne event after skipping out in 2012. According to Boyd, “Xbox will be back at gamescom this August,” which means between the next-Xbox reveal on May 21, and E3 in June, there’s lots of Xbox news heading your way. Games for Change 10th annual festival dated, tickets on sale
The Games for Change festival will be held this year June 17-19. Tickets are now on sale. A schedule of panels for the 10th annual new York event, which focuses the “positive social impact of games,” can be found here. 2K Games won’t have a booth at E3 2013
2K Games won’t have a booth on the floor at E3 this year, despite one of Take Two’s biggest titles hitting in September, and the Civ V expansion on the way, not to mention the new XCOM. According to a post on the 2K forums, the publisher will instead be using Twitch and its YouTube channels to discuss its ware leading up to the June event. 2K doesn’t specifically state it or Take-Two won’t have a presence at the event, just that it won’t have anything on the showroom floor. PAX 2013 passes totally sold out
I’m glad we told you that PAX Prime passes had gone on sale, because barely five hours later, they have completely sold out. Ticket sales opened just after 10:30AM PDT. Four day passes were sold out less than half an hour later, with ticketing system Showclix struggling to keep up with demand. Saturday pass were sold out in less than four hours, with Sunday and Friday following almost immediately. PAX Prime 2013 takes place in Seattle, from August 30 through September 2, and is the first and primary of Penny Arcade’s expos.
