Sonic the Hedgehog out now on Android
The original Sonic the Hedgehog is now available on Google Play for Android devices, priced at $3. This isn’t just a quick and dirty port, either, but a Retro-Engine remake from fan turned pro Christian “The Taxman” Whitehead. It boasts widescreen support at 60FPS, a remastered soundtrack, leaderboards, achievements, Time Attack mode, and playable Knuckles and Tails. The iOS version has been updated to add in these extra features, too.

Rovio introduces Rovio Account, allows users to continue game progress across devices
Rovio has announced Rovio Account, which allows users store your game progress and continue playing games on another device. This will allow you to continue playing on your tablet once you get home from the office and have put your mobile away. It also works for homes with multiple users on one device. So far, the new feature is available in The Croods game globally, and in the classic Angry Birds game on iOS in Finland and Poland. Rovio Account will gradually be introduced into more areas in the future along with new features.

Static Sky is the first title from Unity co-founder’s Framebunker studio
Unity co-founder Nicholas Francis, who formed Framebunker, a mobile game development studio, is working on a sci-fi game called Static Sky. Francis announced his departure from the firm back in February, and he was joined by Unity’s former creative director, Charles Hinshaw. The studio’s philosophy is to create “unforgettable experiences that tablet gamers deserve,” and the firm will put this manifesto to the test when it releases Static Sky in early 2014. Xbox Windows 8 apps updated this week
The Xbox Games and Xbox SmartGlass apps for Windows 8 and Windows RT will be updated this week. The Xbox Games app should run faster, and provide simpler access to recently-played games and associated DLC, as well as more obvious trailers and screenshots and the ability to send messages to Xbox Live friends. The Xbox SmartGlass app will stay awake while you’re using the second screen function, and will benefit from an updated controller layout as well as some stability fixes.
