Sony Online Entertainment now taking G.I.R.L. Scholarship applications
Sony Online Entertainment’s G.I.R.L. Scholarship returns for a sixth year, and the publisher is now taking applications.The program offers $10,000 for tuition and educational expenses to one female student in gaming-related disciplines, as well as a ten week internship in San Diego. Applications close March 29 and can be made here.

Planetside 2 will experience some server mergers soon
Sometimes, things don’t quite work exactly as intended in MMOs, and so things need to be adjusted. In the case of the free-to-play MMOFPS Planetside 2, one such thing is server populations. They are unbalanced, says Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley, and so server mergers are on the way.

Everquest 2 update to add daily objectives, new dunegon
In a new producer’s letter, Sony Online Entertainment has detailed an upcoming update to venerable MMORPG Everquest 2. As well as a new two-group dungeon aimed at high level play, Wurmborne Crag, the update will add daily, weekly and monthly objectives, so you should always find something to do. Moreover, the update adds new bag function to the inventory and gives PvP play a thorough tweaking. Everquest 2 launched in 2004.

Bullet Run being shut down in March by Acony and SOE
SOE has announced it will be shutting down its free-to-play multiplayer FPS Bullet Run. In the game, players were pitted against each other in a reality TV show setting where performance is everything. In a statement on the game’s forum, the community manager said Acony Games and SOE have “mutually made the decision to discontinue development.” The game, its servers, and foums will shut down on March 8. DC Universe Online’s Home Turf Pack now available on PC, PS3 in the US
DC Universe Online’s new DLC pack, Home Turf, launches today. Home Turf is the sixth DLC for the super hero MMO and will run you $10. If you are a Legendary subscriber it’s free. The pack comes with The Mainframe, which is a research lab that supplies your character with devices and buffs, along with a sidekick and new mission content. It’s out today on PC and in the US on PS3. European players on PS3 can pick up the content tomorrow, via the usual PSN update. Find out more on the DLC through the PS Blog.

PlanetSide 2 coming to Major League Gaming through partnership with SOE
PlanetSide 2 will be coming to Major League Gaming with more news to be announced “in the coming weeks.” SOE and MLG are currently in the process of creating “ideal competitive gameplay features and settings,” for competitors complete with original programming. A broadcast schedule will be announced over the course of the next few weeks, along with further details. Wizardry Online release pushed to the end of the month
Wizardry Online, the free-to-play MMORPG from SOE, will launch date January 30. Originally slated for release on January 16, which is tomorrow, SOE said the added time will allow Gamepot to polish the game a bit more before it is released to the public. PlanetSide 2 “hex crash” users being banned
While SOE was on vacation, some folks decided it would be fun to take advantage of a PlanetSide 2 exploit which caused players entering a certain radius to become disconnected. We’ve no idea what this entails, but PCgamesN explains it much better than we could: “Offenders were placing C4 on Sunderer APCs equipped with a particular mod and detonating them – a specific combination which caused every player in the immediate area to crash to desktop.” SOE has released a fix for hex crash issue, and using the log evidence, will be banning players which used the exploit. Evidence of said foul play can be found in the video below.
