Valve’s Skyrim mod adds a bit of Portal 2
One of the first mods to roll off the assembly line enabled by the recently-released Skyrim Creation Kit is a neat little effort by Valve, celebrating the modding community’s intended close relationship with Steam Workshop. The Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1 adds the Space-loving Portal 2 core as a companion, and apparently also Nolan North.
Thanks, GameInformer.

“Something brand new” for Team Fortress 2 this year
In a post on the Team Fortress 2 blog, Valve has teased a number of planned updates for the coming year. The publisher plans to hold its second annual Saxxy Awards; has launched a Steam Workshop blog; and will release a new “Meet The” short for the Pyro. Most excitingly, there’s “something brand new” in the works for the game. No hints were dropped except that it’s not a hat, a map, or a hat-map hybrid. Team Fortress 2 is one of the most successful squad multiplayer shooters, and went free-to-play last year. It’s available for PC and Mac via Steam.
Thanks, Kotaku.

Steam group of 29,000 protesting lack of Half-Life 3 news by playing Half-Life 2 simultaneously
The Steam group “A Call for Communication”, which currently boasts 29,617 members, will be playing Half-Life 2 simultaneously on Saturday, February 4, from 11:00am until 11:30am PST in order to try and get Valve to announce anything pertaining to Half-Life Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 – if either exists. “Instead of focusing efforts in a negative and disrespectful way, we have decided to gain Valve’s attention by delivering a basic message: Your oldest and longest running fanbase would like better communication,” reads the message from the group. Earlier this month, the group had over 10,000 members join its ranks, and now that the number is pushing the 30,000 mark, hopefully Valve will take notice. Thanks, Ripten. [pic]

Valve titles appear on Impulse
RPS has noted that Valve has made its games available on GameStop download service Impulse. The marketplace, which was owned by Stardock up until last year when it was bought by GameStop, now has five titles from the company: Portal 2, The Half-Life Complete Collection, Left 4 Dead 1 + 2 and The Orange Box, all of which end up requiring Steam activation anyways. Still, your options on where to buy Valve games has become more broader now.
More details here.

Counter-strike: Global Offensive files yield Half-life jokes
Kotaku‘s got a small gallery of images reportedly pulled from the Counter-strike: Global Offensive beta, which purportedly reference Half-life, among other Valve games. Before you get too excited, Steam forum users have known about these for a while, and haven’t uncovered an AR puzzle or any concrete teases, so it seems Valve may just be making some in-jokes of the kind which wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow at another company. Still, they’re kind of cool – go look. Global Offensive is expected to launch in the first half of the year, for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Left 4 Dead Boomer action figure is grotesque
But some people are apparently into that sort of thing. The level of detail on this figure is incredible, and we really can’t imagine who would want to have this on display in their home/office. But in this case it’s a sort of horrifying beauty. Full picture after the break. More »
