Final Fantasy 14 Legacy player names eligible for MMO’s credits reel

20130410_final_fantasy_14_a_realm_reborn

Square Enix is offering Legacy players a chance to have their names appear in the credits for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. Legacy members are those who racked up at least 90 days of paid subscription time after January 6 2012. Register before April 30 for bragging rights, as well as a discounted subscription rate and chocobo mount. A Realm Reborn is a complete rebuild of the much-criticised Final Fantasy 14, and is expected on PC and PlayStation 3 later this year.

Thanks, Massively.

Thief on PC won’t be “a copy of the console version”

Thief 040413

Eidos Montreal’s Stephane Roy has said the PC version of Thief is “extremely important,” and it won’t just be a port of the console version. Speaking with Strategy Informer, Roy said playing Thief with a keyboard and mouse “is different,” than playing with a controller, so it must develop the proper support. “Making the PC version we think like a PC gamer, for consoles it’s a different type of beast,” he said. “It’s one of our goals to make sure that the PC version isn’t just a copy of the console version.” Thief is out next year on next-gen consoles and PC.

Tomb Raider video shows off late-game climbing

20130311_tomb_raider

Most gameplay footage focuses on early sections to avoid spoilers, but this new Tomb Raider video shows off a climbing sequence from quite late in the game. There aren’t really any plot spoilers, so if you’re on the fence about the Crystal Dynamics reboot and keen to see how it looks when Lara has all her gear unlocked, go through.

Thief dev wants the challenge to be in-game, not in the controls

20130405_thief

Bless the early Thief games, but they did require you to have octopus arms to get the most out of them. Eidos Montreal wants the new game to be hard without requiring you to make a keyboard overlay showing off all Garrett’s moves.

Thief’s Garrett to be played by Romano Orzari

thief header -1 - 040413

Thief’s Garrett will be played by Romano Orzari in the game, according to a new community video from Eidos Montreal. As reported previously, the original voice actor Stephen Russell didn’t reprise his role as full performance capture was implemented into the game. Can’t say it was a bad choice, in my opinion anyway, plus you may recognize him from Assassin’s Creed 2 where he voiced Giovanni Auditore da Firenze. He also played him in Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, the live-action video series.

Thief is out next year on next-gen consoles and PC.

20130404_drakengard_3

It’s that time again: Square Enix has released a batch of new screenshots for Drakengard 3, so get out your best “looks like a PS2 game” riffs while I carefully note down your name for the coming revolution, in which everyone who has not played Nier and even some who have will be forced into menial labour and never permitted to feel sunlight.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy localisation on the way – rumour

bravely default fff ar

AR-heavy RPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is coming west, according to Siliconera. The site touts its almost perfectly reliable sources, gossiping at GDC, for the news. Square Enix has never made any official commitment to bring the 3DS title to English-speaking audiences; it released in Japan in October last year, topping the charts, and is a kind of spiritual successor to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. A PC spin-off is currently in beta.

Million Arthur coming to Vita

20130403_million_arthur

No, you’ve probably never heard of it, but in Japan Million Arthur is a big deal. Siliconera reports Square Enix is sensibly porting this phenomenally successful card battler from smartphones to Vita, and bringing it to Korea, too. It will join a number of free-to-play Vita games available for Asian markets. Let’s hope it helps Square Enix climb out of its financial hole; it’s attracted over 1 million users since launching in April last year.
