Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is hosting a Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 cross-over event, which sees the titular heroine wandering around Eorzea “dispatching foes with lethal efficiency, only to vanish before her identity can be ascertained.”

Now, CEO of US and Europe Phil Rogers has stressed that the game has re-focused the publisher, but that ultimately the notion of games as services doesn’t resonate with gamers.

Bravely Default: For the Sequel developer Square Enix has detailed and screened a handful of cross-over boss encounters from Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. The game will also some with day-one costume DLC that you’ll get for free.

Because, a lady should always look her best, even if she is kicking some ass, right? There’s more than just slick duds in the shop – there’s also weapons and armor. Square Enix has announced it’s working on a new architecture for cloud gaming, tentatively titled Project Flare, which is currently set to be launched two or three years from now. Project Flare will leverage a number of servers tied together as a “virtual supercomputer” to compartmentalise various types of processing, a boost in power the company thinks will “revolutionise the way users interact”.

Though we’re still months away from the Thief reboot arriving in our homes, Square Enix is getting that marketing ball rolling with a series of animated videos called Stories from The City — “The City” being what they call where the game takes place. The first of said tales is told by Basso, who you could say is Garrett’s only real bro in the world.

Hidden deep within the bowels of Nintendo’s financial reports today was that tidbit that the previously announced Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is due sometime between January and March next year. The game’s North American release will be based on the upcoming Japanese revision of Bravely Default, Bravely Default: For the Sequel, which contains a large number of minor and not so minor improvements.

Square Enix has released a bunch of screenshots for the upcoming 3DS remake of Dragon Quest Monsters 2, which is sadly still only announced for Japan. With production values like these however, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if it made its way over to the US and Europe at some point. Screens, after the jump.
