The King of Fighters ’99 has been listed by the Australian Classification Board, to be published by Nintendo. The classic fighter got a Virtual Console release in Japan in December, but has so far not been announced for a western re-release. It looks like that might change, although somewhat mysteriously, it’s listed for release on DVD rather than Wii U. Wouldn’t be the Board’s first clerical error, though.

NEOGEO X will receive a collection of 15 additional game cards in America from late April, SNK Playmore has confirmed. The games will come as part of NEOGEO X Classics: Volume I pack, and can be used with all versions of the handheld.

SNK Playmore has made good on its promise and delivered Metal Slug 2 to Google Play and the Apple App Store. The $4 title is described as a “perfect port” but Destructoid reports it also includes the chance to replay stages in Mission Mode, an auto-fire option, leaderboards and Bluetooth multiplayer. Neo Geo Pocket is back in business. Well, in Japan at least. It’ll be back as a portable games device for a Japanese audience, according to Andriasang, who say SNK has given its blessing for the licensing of the new product. It’ll come with a 4.3 inch screen, 2Gb of storage and with a list of 20 classic NeoGeo titles, including Metal Slug and Fatal Fury. No release date or price as yet.

According to Siliconera, Atlus has confirmed that SNK Playmore is working on a fix for troubled online multiplayer in The King of Fighters XIII. Meanwhile, if you’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you can grab a demo ahead of its general release to Silver subs and the PlayStation Network on December 13.

Connectivity and matchmaking issues are raising ire among The King of Fighters XIII players, but Atlus is doing what it can.

SNK Playmore has announced that Metal Slug XX will land on PSP December 23 in Japan.

It’s a remixed version of Metal Slug 7 with ad-hoc cooperative play and 70 mini-games.

The King of Fighters XII will launch on September 25 for both 360 and PS3 in the UK, Ignition said today.

The new date’s a slip from the previously announced August 28 release. Which is today.

Yesterday was the tenth birthday of the launch of Neo Geo Pocket Color in the US.

The handheld was a short-lived affair, being dumped from both US and European markets in 2000 when Aruze bought SNK.

It was finally snuffed out of existence in 2001, when it was discontinued in Japan.

According to Wikipedia, the machine did about 2 million units – with NGP sales included – and had a properly awesome Metal Slug version. That’s how we remember it, anyway: it was a long time ago.

Ignition Entertainment says that despite King of Fighters XII getting a July date for the US, Europe will still have to wait until August 28.

SNK has announced via its King of Fighters XII Facebook page that the game will be released in North America on July 28.

That’s two days ahead of the Japanese date.
