House of the Dead: Overkill heading for an iOS release
The Lost Reels is a remixed port of the original 2009 House of the Dead shooter and is set for release on iOS tonight. Broken into three “movies” or parts, the initial download offers the first movie, Papa’s Palace of Pain, and on playthrough will unlock the second movie, Ballistic Trauma. Naked Terror, the third part, must be purchased though. Each movie is made up of four levels and a boss battle.

SEGA Pluto prototype shown off by former SEGA employee
A former SEGA employee has posted shots and information on something called SEGA Pluto, which was SEGA Saturn with internal Netlink. According to a forum poster on Assembler Games called Super Magnetic, Pluto was “the heaviest console,” he’d ever held and it featured: “two controller ports, and on top you have a flip-top drive bay, a cart slot, a Power button, and the venerable Reset button.” The poster notes Pluto may have been the codename for the Saturn console, and only two prototypes of this particular version were created. Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 headed to 3DS
Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 was announced for 3DS in the latest issue of Famitsu, according to Siliconera. It’s the follow up to last year’s effort, the first to grace Nintendo’s handheld. Sega has made some noise about potentially localising Hatsune Miku games for the west; the vocaloid has made popular appearances on PlayStation 3 and Vita as well.

Castle of Illusion teased in retro styled movie trailer from SEGA
It looks like SEGA is almost ready to confirm a re-release of Castle of Illusion. See the trailer below, it all it’s old fashioned horror style glory. Reminds me a bit of the beginning of Young Frankenstein. The adventure platformer popped up on the Brazilian Ratings website last month, and was listed for PS3, Wii U, Vita, and Xbox 360. The trailer listing on YouTube lists it for a summer release.

Total War: Rome 2 shown off in whopping great screenshot
Sega’s sent over a link to a Panorama page on the Total War wiki, on which it posts staggeringly enormous screenshots. If you’d like to look at a landscape lovingly rendered in-engine and then pieced together into a 30000 x 9785 pixel image, that is a thing you can do. Total War: Rome 2 comes out on PC later this year and none of you have monitors big enough for anything approaching this level of image quality.

Aliens: Colonial Marines patch re-released on Steam after being pulled
Aliens: Colonial Marines received a patch yesterday from Gearbox Software on Steam, only to be pulled due to problems reported such as missing downloadable content and and not being able to use ini tweaks due to anti-cheating changes. Gearbox said it pulled the patch until it could figure out what was causing the corrupt DLC error, and later on in t he night it re-released the patch stating that the reported problems had been solved. The firm said on its forums it “continuing to work on updates for all platforms, including the hot fix support mentioned at PAX,” and that more details would be released once finalized. The patch which was re-released added a toggle for the film grain filter and increased security to address cheats and exploits.

Sonic the Hedgehog remastered for Android, iOS release this month
Sega has announced a new version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, remastered for Android and iOS. In a post on the Sonic Retro forums, prominent Sonic fan community members Christian “The Taxman” Whitehead and Stealth were confirmed as the power behind the port, with Whitehead stating the new version is a Retro-Engine remake like that Sonic CD was recently graced with. Expect the mobile release this month for $3; owners of the existing version will be able to update for free. A Sonic 2 remake is also on the cards.

Aliens: Colonial Marines for Wii U canceled, confirms SEGA
SEGA has canceled the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines, after weeks of Internet rumblings on the matter. A spokesperson confirmed the cancellation to Kotaku with the following statement: “We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date.”
SEGA also contacted VG247 to confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines “is no longer in development.”
