Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition tots up 3.6 million sales
Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has sold over 3.6 million copies, Mojang business developer Daniel Kaplan revealed on Twitter. It’s an unusual milestone to report on; Kaplan mantioned the figure because he’s apparently just returned from a break. The port was released in May and hit 3 million sales by June; earlier this month, it was still shifting 17,000 copies a day and remains high on the Xbox Live Activity charts. The PC version has sold over 7 million copies.

Remember that mysterious external collaboration which Mojang founder Markus “Notch” Persson mentioned recently? Persson told Joystiq it was a first person shooter. No further details were given, but the shelving didn’t come about because the game wasn’t good enough. Mojang just “did not want more external dependencies”, apparently. “The success of Minecraft meant we could focus on projects fully owned by us,” Persson said.

No user data compromised in Minecraft authentication hiccup
Just a sort of anti-PSA today to tell you not to worry. Over the weekend, some scurrilous types found an exploit in Minecraft’s authentication server which allowed them to log in as and impersonate other players. No passwords or other personal details were compromised; it was just a matter of your reputation possibly being besmirched. Happily, Mojang rallied around, dropped the game offline briefly, and got it fixed with admirable speed.

Minecraft Xbox 360 DLC to offer 40 skins
A skin pack for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft is expected shortly, and will bundle 40 outfits including a Covenant Grunt, ‘Splosion Man, and a bike from Trials. Skins will be supported in Minecraft Xbox 360 available once patch 1.73 goes live; the update is in certification and expected to arrive before the end of next week. You’ll be able to check out a free trial of the costumes, and multiple uers can front the same one.

Minecraft snapshot build hints at future LAN support
A recent snapshot build release for Minecraft includes support for LAN multiplayer, rather than needing to set up or join a multiplayer server. As Mojang notes, the feature is a work in progress, and isn’t guaranteed to make it into a completed update, but we can hope.
