Now rejoicing in the title Marvel Heroes, the game has fronted a new logo and a piece of Spider-man artwork, which you can admire at your leisure below. The game remains undated.

An interesting upshot of the change is a distancing of the upcoming title from Cryptic’s Champions Online, which was originally developed as a Marvel-licensed game under the Marvel Universe moniker. According to Shack News, Gazillion commented that the new title better reflects the “pivotal” role of the iconic Marvel characters in the game’s universe. Gazillion has hinted in the past that it has an unusual solution to the problem of the relationship between player-created characters and established heroes.

Gazillion’s other Marvel title, the free-to-play, kid-friendly browser MMO Marvel Super Heroes Online, has attracted 1 million registered players.

A release date has not been set for Gazillion’s MMO.

The pad was designed specially for Marvel and fighting game fans, and is decorated with Marvel’s SIEGE event from 2010.

“In the last few years, fighting games have re-emerged as an incredibly popular genre in the console gaming world, with a dedicated, serious audience that demands high-quality tools,” said Tom Roberts, chief technical officer, Performance Designed Products. “We have designed the Versus Fighting Pad to be the ultimate game pad for fighting-game players while reflecting the super heroics of Marvel in this special-edition controller.”

The wired six-button controller has “high quality micro-switch activators,” implemented in the thumb stick, so that it feels more like an arcade joystick yet compact like a thumb pad at the same time. The thumb stick also has a rubberized, over-tooled cap while the pad itself has a satin grip finish.

The Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad will be available at retail and on PDP.com for a suggested retail price of $39.99 beginning February 14.

SEGA Europe has confirmed to VG247 that the PSP version of Thor as been canceled.

No reason was provided to us, only the confirmation from SEGA that “there won’t be a PSP version.”

Yesterday, SEGA sent over its update released schedule, and noted that the PSP version of Thor had been “removed from the release schedule”.

Thor is out April 29 on DS, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

LEGO Universe studio Gazillion Entertainment has obtained an extra $60 million in funding from Singaporean private equity firm Temasek Holdings.

As reported by Gamasutra, Gazillion is headquartered in San Mateo and has development studios in California (Slipgate Ironworks, Gargantuan), Colorado (NetDevil), and Washington (Amazing Society).

It was founded in 2005. This new investment from Temasek comes as the company plans to enter “a key phase of expansion”.

Its NetDevil studio recently released LEGO Universe in North America and Europe, published by Warner Bros. Gazillion is also working on Marvel Superhero Squad for Marvel.

The studio is currently developing Jumpgate Evolution, a remake of its first MMO, as well as an original IP.

SEGA and Marvel announced Captain America: Super Soldier today for a 2011 release on DS, PSP, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.

The announcement comes almost a year after Marvel outed the game in a financial report alongside one based on Thor.

“Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America,” said Gary Knight, senior VP of marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America.

“Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier, wielding Captain America’s legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”

In the game, players step into the shoes of Captain America as he faces the Red Skull and his army in a third- person action adventure set in World War II.

Wielding the Captain’s shield, gamers will engage in “free-flowing combat and acrobatic platforming to infiltrate Hydra’s mysterious castle and battle the infamous Iron Cross, the forces of Hydra, and a host of nefarious enemies serving the Red Skull”.

Captain America: Super Soldier combines a highly athletic combat system with fluid platforming and a highly tuned suite of shield attacks, as Cap explores a massive castle turned military installation. His shield can be employed in numerous ways: taking out multiple enemies at once, deflecting incoming fire back at enemies, solving puzzles, and scaling walls. Players will be able to launch shield-first into the fray with the superior force of the world’s first Super-Soldier at their fingertips-and they’ll need every bit of that strength to overcome a castle that’s both an acrobatic playground for the Captain’s physical prowess and a house of mystery with enemies and danger at every turn.

The story is being penned by Christos Gage, which should make fans rather pleased, and Gage wrote the story so the “setting exists within the same world as the upcoming movie of the same name” but infused with “immersive twists designed to enhance gameplay with all-new cinematic action sequences”.

Directed by Joe Jonston, the film Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull, Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips, and Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine.

It’s set for release in July 2011, with the game’s release expected to coincide with the film’s debut.

Marvel has announced LittleBigPlanet will be the proud recipient of its Costume Pack 4 on August 17.

It will contain Hulk, Storm, Green Goblin, Magneto, and the Punisher.

We can’t decide if we like Hulk or Green Goblin the best, to be honest.

Packs 1 – 3 are already available, and include: Iron Man, Thing, Mystique, Daredevil, Doctor Octopus, Thor, Spider-Man, Human Torch, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Captain America, Invisible Woman, Rogue, Venom and Wolverine.

All packs will run you $5.99 each or $1.99 individually.

Activision has announced Neil Patrick Harris will reprise his role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

Known as womanizer Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother, the crazy celebrity in Harold and Kumar, and for his role as Doogie Howser, Harris also lent his voice to Peter Parker in Spider-Man: The New Animated Series.

Different actors will voice Spidey in the four different worlds of the game: Harris in Amazing, Josh Keaton in Ultimate, Christopher Daniel Barnes in Noir, and Dan Gilvezan will portray him in 2099.

Along with Harris, each of the actors portrayed the web-slinger in previous Spider-Man animated television series.

Another famous name in the game you may recognize is Stan Lee (how could you not? – ed.) who will guide players through the storyline of Shattered Dimensions as the game’s narrator.

Beenox ‘s Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will be available September 7 for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PC, with Griptonite handling the DS version.

Marvel and Sega announced today a third-person adventure game based on the God of Thunder himself, Thor.

Thor: The Video Game has players taking on an array of ancient enemies and beasts from Norse mythology using different battle strategies and elemental powers.

In the game, Thor’s legendary hammer Mjolnir will allow players to command the powers of the storm – wind, thunder and lightning – and earn Valor in combat. Players will also be able to select from other abilities, and acquire new attacks, powers and upgrades.

“We are proud to be bringing Thor to his first solo video game adventure”, commented Gary Knight, senior VP of marketing at Sega.

“Thor: The Video Game will finally bring the immense power of this iconic hero to lifelong fans, and introduce the God of Thunder to a whole new audience as a true Marvel Super Hero.”

The PS3 and 360 versions of Thor will feature melee combos, ranged hammer throws, elemental powers and an upgrade system for Thor’s powers as gamers progress in a cinematic format.

PSP, Wii and DS players will be privy to the same game story, but visuals will be presented in a comic book style instead.

Writer and lead Thor comic book author Matt Fraction was brought on as a story consultant for Thor: The Video Game, which is slated to launch around the same time as the upcoming film adaptation from Marvel Studios.

It’s out next year.

Marvel has revealed on its official site the second LittleBigPlanet Marvel Character Pack will land on PSN July 20.

Spider-Man was revealed the other day, along with a hint regarding the Human Torch.

Today, while browsing the site, we got to see cute renditions of Ghost Rider, Elektra, and Thor.

Marvel Pack 1 hit PSN last week and included: Iron Man,Thing, Mystique, Daredevil and Doctor Octopus.

Marvel has announced that starting July 7, the Marvel Super Hero and Super villain costumes for your Sackboys and Sackgirls will be made available for LBP.

Marvel will start unveiling art and information for the Sackpersons June 28 on its official site and are to release content every other week on PSN.

Four different Marvel Costume Packs will be made available, and each contains five different costumes.

In the video for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, courtesy of GameTrailers, the two swordsmen/gunmen go at it for a few seconds. That’s about it.

Wolverine, Ryu, Iron Man and others are in there too. It’s all rather short, but very cool.

The vortex at the end suggests that someone else is about to descend upon the city, so, we’re anxious to find out which character is to be revealed next.

Could be exciting – then again it could be Dazzler. We sure as fu hell hope not.

It’s out early next year for 360 and PS3.

Looks like recently announced Captivate 2010 darling MvC3 has been in development a lot longer than one would think.

According to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer, Ryota Niitsuma, the fighter has been in development since 2008, and the delay was due to some legal issues before Capcom re-acquired the Marvel license to make the game.

Speaking with GameTrailers, Niitsuma said the delay  had more to do with massive growth and new IP between the two companies, and contract negotiations just took quite a while.

So far, there will be around 30 characters in the game, and more will likely be added to the roster.

Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, Chris Redfield, Morrigan Aensland, and Ryu have been confirmed.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is expected to hit stores during spring 2011, and will be a console only release for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Marvel’s latest financial report’s confirmed game tie-ins for the new Thor and Captain America movies in 2011, Gamespot reports.

First out will be Thor, with the movie releasing in May. Captain America will follow in July.

Thanks to the SCEA document leak regarding all things SEGA, it appears the two and a half years in the making Thor superhero game is progressing.

So much so that Sony has requested to see the current code from SEGA.

The game will be based on the Thor film and last we heard, the game was set to be released alongside the film in 2011.

Looks like a Capcom vs. Marvel 3 is not going to happen anytime soon, according to Capcom.

Capcom community manager Seth Killian was asked if gamers can expect the title any time soon by Joystiq during a media event yesterday, and his answer was not very hopeful.

“The short answer is no, that’s not any part of this deal,” he said.

“What we’re hoping is that if people get really juiced about this title, and we can show Marvel that there’s a lot of heat behind this, then they’ll open up the door for us to do something with ’3,’ which is something we’d love to do.”

The biggest problem, he said, has to do with licensing issues preventing further development.

However, there is the possibility of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 arcade sticks heading to retailers.

“It’s a discussion … we would love to make it happen,” he revealed. “If you saw the ‘leak’ of those MadCatz sticks, that was actually B.S. That was a complete fabrication, but it’s something we would love to do.”

Marvel’s Q1 financial report lists $80 million in sales revenue made from licensing deals with net sales at $197 million.

Numbers were higher than expected thanks to “strength in interactive games and royalties from better than anticipated worldwide licensee sales”, even though the company was down y-o-y for the quarter.

Sales are expected to grow due to the following titles:

• X-Men Origins: Wolverine (out now)
• The Punisher: No Mercy (May 2009)
• Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (June 29)
• Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (September 2009)
• Marvel Super Hero Squad (October 2009)

“When the colony planet Ariel sends out a mysterious distress signal, it’s up to the UNSC’s elite, highly skilled special-ops Marines, the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers from the 105th, to find out what’s happening. Also known as ODSTs or ‘Helljumpers’, these soldiers are some of the toughest in the galaxy…and some of the roughest as well.

“When the distress signal comes, two Helljumpers will find themselves at the center of the mystery on Ariel, and before it’s solved, they’ll have to put their friendship—and their lives—on the line…”

Helljumpers is the first in a five part series and is written by Peter David and illustrated by Eric Nguyen.

Another series in the Halo comic sphere, titled Spartan Black, is also in the works.

Remember Gazillion Entertainment and Marvel signing a 10-year contract for Marvel MMOs? They’re going to have Marvel writers and artists working on them, apparently.

Marvel’s Ira Rubenstein said so at the GamesBeat 2009 conference in San Francisco.

Marvel and start-up developer Gazillion have signed a ten-year deal to deliver MMOs based on Marvel characters.

The first, a kid-aimed game called Super Hero Squad, will debut in 2010 as a tie-in with a Cartoon Network show.

Beyond that, Gazillion will continue with its own version of a giant Marvel game, dubbed Marvel Universe, for both the PC and consoles.

Gazillion has been operating under the guise of NR2B Research up to this point, and employs 300 staff in the US.

The company is the owner of NetDevil, currently working on Lego Universe.
