Gameloft announced today the company has achieved a 15% growth in year on year sales. The company attributes its “rapid growth” to the success and virtual goods and advertising which make up as much as 80% of its smartphone revenue.

Gameloft is working on an iOS tie-in to upcoming film Thor: The Dark World. The free-to-play mobile release drops at the same time as the movie, but boasts an original story from Marvel’s Christopher Yost rather than following its plot. Its 100+ missions require a variety of both hacking and slashing, which you can see in action in a trailer below the fold.

A number of game developers and publishers have incurred the wrath of the notoriously litigious Lodsys. ArsTechnica, which describes the company as a “patent troll”, reports Lodsys has recently filed a fresh wave of lawsuits against mobile developers Gameloft, Backflip Studios, Gamevil, Jirbo, MobileAge, PocketGems, Sunstorm Interactive, TMSoft, TLA Systems and Disney – in the last case taking particular issue with the popular Where’s My Water? – all over a patent for in-app purchases. The EFF and Apple have both tried to stop Lodsys’s constant lawsuits but it continues to targets companies of all shapes and sizes.

Gameloft has released a video for N.O.V.A. 3 – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance showing off the multiplayer in the iOS and Android shooter. The game includes 10 weapons, six maps, six game modes including Free For All, Capture The Flag & Team Deathmatch , vehicles and customizable characters with weapon add-ons and perks. The game hits the App Store and Google Play this month.

As well as a surprisingly lengthy single-player campaign, the mobile release packs in 12-player multiplayer. Gameloft has released a new video for it wild-west shooter, Six Guns. The game is slated as a microtransaction title for iOS devices. In it, you’ll play a gunslinger who gets to shoot vampires, witches, werewolves and what looks like a nasty cult composed of Native Americans led astray. Originally titled Bullet, the game was originally slated for a fall release, now, it’s just “coming soon”.

Gameloft’s announced a new deal with Australian airline Jetstar that will see 12 of its titles become part of the company’s iPad rentals on flights. The initial five titles involved from next month are Real Football, Shrek Kart, Avatar, UNO and N.O.V.A.: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, with the seven remaining games GT Racing: Motor Academy, Brain Challenge, Blokus, Ironman 2, Let’s Golf 2, The Settlers and Asphalt 5 coming in Q1 2012. Passingers will be able to rent an iPad for flights longer than 2 hours for A$10 to A$15 for Australian domestic, trans Tasman and short-haul international flights between Australia and New Zealand.

Follow Ubisoft-owned mobile publisher Gameloft’s Android Twitter over the holiday weekend; the company intends to give away free games.
This batch of giveaways is specific to Android devices and the US, but keep an eye on GameloftUK, GameloftAus, GameloftUS and good old Gameloft for future promotions for other territories and devices.
Gameloft’s titles include MMORPG Order and Chaos and games based on Ubisoft properties.
