Shipment numbers were broken down by region, with North America the most supplied with 620,000 units, followed by Europe with 470,000 units.

Japan came next with 370,000 units – the RPG launched there at the end of September – with “Asia” coming home at the 40,000 mark.

The game – published by Namco Bandai everywhere except Japan, where From did the honours – launched with strong critical success; it has an 89% average on MetaCritic for both PS3 and 360.

No, Dark Souls won’t let you play as a Wonder Twin. This, you see, actually sounds pretty darn cool. Also, we’ve yet to see any purple spandex, which is always a plus.

Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently highlighted some of Dark Souls’ more unique powers, and the keyword here seems to be “versatility.”

For instance, one spell turns you into a hulking, practically stationary iron man (not, unfortunately, to be confused with the Iron Man), hugely boosting your defense at the expense of mobility.

Or you can turn into a vase. An ordinary, non-genie-filled vase. It’s infinitely breakable, sure, but it also takes a page right out of Metal Gear Solid 4′s book. Similar to the way Snake was able to blend in with a group of statues, Dark Souls will grant you near-invisibility when you plop down next to a row of vases. From there, you’ll be able to mount a surprise attack against your unsuspecting foe.

All told, it sounds hilariously entertaining. Let’s just hope Link never finds his way into the game.

Thanks, Siliconera.

Namco’s just confirmed a 2011 European release for Dark Souls following its formal western reveal last night, and has finally issued full-size assets.

The game, the spiritual successor to notoriously tough PS3 RPG Demon’s Souls, was previously confirmed for a 2011 release in Japan only for PS3.

The From Software RPG, seen as a spiritual sequel to Demon’s Souls, was shown off to press last night in San Francisco at a Namco Bandai event.

Dark Souls’ reveal trailer looks seriously like
predecessor Demon’s Souls.

Dark Souls continues in Demon’s Souls vein of brooding fantasy, charging you with constant combat. When fighting you’ll need to pay close attention to your environment.

It’ll be hard to swing your sword or mace in narrow passages – just as in Demon’s Souls.

You will also be able to flee or use a shield when being attacked, provided you have the opportunity.

The world in Dark Souls is seamlessly connected, and you are allowed to travel anywhere within it once you have access to a full map.

For the time being, all that’s known regarding the map interface is the “positional marker,” but hopefully more will be revealed soon.

Speaking at a Namco Bandai event in San Francisco last night, Uchiyama said Dark Souls will deliver “a better, more difficult experience” than its precursor.

The game got an info-dump from Famitsu earlier this week.

The game’s western release will be on PS3 and 360.

See that name above? Project Dark? Forget it. The next game from the creators of Demon’s Souls is now known as Dark Soul.

The news on the title change comes in this week’s Famitsu. And just in case you thought there was a small tiny connection to Demon’s Souls in terms of story anyway, there isn’t: Dark Soul won’t use the same story or same world as the infamously difficult PS3 RPG.

Worlds in the game won’t also be tied together as they are in Demon’s Souls, but developer From Software has said Dark Soul’s gameplay will be similar in concept to DS in a trial and error-like way.

The world setting for Dark Soul is said to be “medieval dark fantasy,” with many other themes such as “high fantasy of kings and knights,” “death and the depths of the world” and more.

As for multiplayer, the game will feature elements similar to Demon’s Souls, such as co-op and PvP.

Dark Soul releases this year for PS3 and 360 from Namco Bandai Games.

Thanks, GAF.

Unfortunately, the company didn’t confirm whether or not the game was indeed Demon’s Souls 2, or if it has any relation to the rock-hard RPG. However, the game’s announcement trailer gives us some clues.

Watch it below.

As you can see, the game looks every bit like what a Demon’s Souls sequel should. Similar warriors in armour, same perspective, identical combat system and even a big bad dragon.

Project Dark also seems to take place in a similar setting to its predecessor.

We have a sneaky suspicion that Project Dark might be a “working title” right now.

Project Dark is also releasing for Xbox 360, according to the game’s official website, and its chances of a European release looks bright too.

The UK wing of Namco Bandai told Eurogamer to “wait and see” when asked about a potential publishing deal for Project Dark.

Thanks Kotaku.

Not much is known of it, other then it’s being aimed at fans of the former, with it being a “dark fantasy” title.

The game was shown at Sony’s TGS press conference this morning, but the internet stream was blacked out during the presentation.

If this is a spiritual sequel to Demon’s Souls, expect this to be fucked up difficult.

Project Dark releases next year in Japan for PS3. It’s out in the west for PS3 and 360 from Namco Bandai.

Def. Con. 1. Namco Bandai has told VG247 it’ll be making a formal announcement on a European release for Demon’s Souls tomorrow.

It comes as the FromSoftware RPG was listed on the website of the German classifications board, the USK, for a release this morning.

A rep from the firm told us: “We will be making a full announcement tomorrow.”

Watch the mountains, keep looking for smoke signals in the sky, whatever. Just keep watching, for the love of God.

Demon’s Souls released early last year in Japan by Sony, before it was released in the US by Atlas in October. SCEE had said previously it had no plans to release the game in Europe. A sequel has already been hinted at for a fall release in Japan.

Last night, it was revealed the original had sold over 280k in America since launch.

The dream is looking like a reality: Demon’s Souls is looking set for a European release for real, according to a listing on the German board classification the USK.

The listing’s been pulled from its website, but TSA managed to get a grab of the listing before it got taken down, which shows Namco-Bandai Partners as the publisher.

Already, original publisher for the FromSoftware RPG in Asia, Sony, has said it has no plans to publish the game in Europe. Atlus, publisher in the US, hadn’t stated previously if it was to be given duties for it.

So far to date, it’s sold over 280k in America, with a sequel already hinted at for fall in Japan.

We’ll email NBP about it, but grasp some straws, just in case.

Speaking at GDC, SCE localisation liaison Yeonkyung Kim has revealed the company made a big “mistake” when it passed on publishing Demon’s Souls.

In Japan and Asia, the game was published by Sony, but Atlus was then given publishing duties in the US, with no European release planned yet by neither firms. Something Kim regrets.

“That was a mistake,” he said. “It should have come out as a first-party title.”

Kim admitted it would be a niche title, hence why it wasn’t originally picked up with expected sales to be 15,000, but the LtD numbers for the FromSoftware RPG is at nearly a quarter of a million.

But is a sequel on the way. According to this, yes.

Japanese mag Dengeki has possibly teased in its latest podcast that Demon’s Souls 2 is on the way.

And it’ll be out this fall in Japan.

The title wasn’t exactly mentioned, but the podcast did say it was a game that released last year, and had some “interesting gameplay systems”.

The internet’s added two and two and come up with 451. And here we are.

The ridiculously hard RPG was released a year ago this month in Japan, with SCEJ doing publishing duties in the country. America got it near the end of last year with Persona developer Atlus releasing the title in the US.

So far, no-one’s picked it up for a European release, but we’re remaining hopeful for something.

Of course, you could just import from the US.

3D Dot Game Heroes has been announced as an exclusive for PS3, and is expected to hit Europe and North America in May.

To be published by SouthPeak in Europe and Atlus in the US, From Software’s 3D Dot Games Heroes takes its inspiration from classic 8-bit RPGs with homages to many games released in the 80s.

Retro, yet graphically modern, the game features pick-up-and-play controls, a vast character creation system, ready-made characters, and lots of other cool retro-inspired goodness.

There’s an awesome trailer for the game over on the official website, as well as a pre-order button and some fantastic background music greeting you.

You can also obtain more information through the SouthPeak site.

The western Ninja Blade demo’s to be released on March 9, but Microsoft let us have it yesterday, being the benevolent soul that it is. Find a grab of the first 11 minutes after the break, including half of a whopping boss battle. Be warned: we’re quite bad at it.

The From Software actioner bears more than a passing resemblance to Ninja Gaiden, but doesn’t appear to suffer from the same camera horrors, which is nice. And it looks amazing, to be fair.

There’s lots of QTE in there, though, as you’ll know if you had a waz on the Japanese demo at the end of last year.

Take a look. It’s out in Europe on April 3.

It is what it is. And what it is is ninjas on Wii. Snip:

What’s new for Tokyo Game Show? Everything. Motion controls to perform moves like neck-snapping, drowning, and garotting are only part of the fun. Every little detail, like shaking the Wii Remote left and right (with accompanying sword clash sounds) to cycle between game modes and menu options are nicely manicured, and it’s obvious that Acquire are thrilled to be back in control of their baby.

Read and see.
