TERA’s first closed beta phase begins this weekend
The first closed beta phase of TERA starts this weekend. Starting tomorrow, and running until February 19, servers will be online from 3.00pm CEST until midnight each day. It will be the first of five beta tests for all pre-order customers, last year’s beta participants, and the 1,000 selected winners of the early beta registration. Two character slots will be available for player to explore the races and participate in battles up to level 22. For the first time guilds can now fight each other on a PvP server and participate in outlaw missions in the town of Velika. Based on a subscription model, TERA is set to be released on May 3, with Ubisoft is managing the European retail distribution, and Frogster the digital distribution in the region. The pre-order version of the game is available in the official TERA pre-order shop.

En Masse working on distributing TERA beta codes after retail issues with Collector’s Edition
Those who have tried to pre-order the Collectors Edition of TERA have found that the game is not available for pre-order, thus putting a damper on hopes of guaranteed access to the game’s closed beta. En Masse has said the codes were “only recently conveyed to retailers,” is sorry about the issue, and is looking into a fix now. The firm said it is communicating directly with the retailers to see whether there’s “anything we can do to speed the process” up and the codes distributed. It will also provide updates as to when the pre-order availability of the physical collector’s edition is available, and at which retailers. Seems like the safest route for the time being, would be to purchase the Collector’s Edition digitally, if you want in the beta that badly. A sneak peek beta is currently going on now, and the first of five closed beta tests start February 17 run every weekend until April 15. The open beta starts on April 19 and the game releases in May.

Frogster to shutter Mythos, EU servers going offline next week
Frogster has announced it’s to shutter Mythos, originally in development from now-defunct Flagship Studios, starting next week on Oct 27 due to the lack of players. The game launched in April after beta testing started in February, and while initial player numbers were positive, “the desired long-term success unfortunately did not follow.” In order for it to go out in style, the firm will be hosting in-game events and giveaways for the remaining players starting this Thursday, October 20 with the Farewell Party taking place October 26. Players active for at least three-months will be handed Runes of Magic vouchers and some will receive beta keys for upcoming MMO Eligium. The game had yet to be released in the US. Thanks, MMOCrunch.
