Cue the arrival of Air Raider, who appears with a Metal Gear Solid homage to save the day. The recently delayed Earth Defense Force 2025 is headed to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2014.

Earth Defence Force 2025 – otherwise known as Earth Defence Force 4 – has a new July release date, according to Siliconera. The action effort had been expected in June, but has apparently been pushed back. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release is also headed west but has not yet been dated.

In Earth Defence Force 2025 you’re likely to get crushed and stomped on, but not as the elusive Wing Diver unit, which takes the fight to the skies.

Planet in Distress, the indie platformer from Might and Delight will be released at the end of the month on Steam, and XBL, the developer has announced. It will run you 800 MS Points/$9.99 on October 31, and is slated for release on PSN later this year. Thanks, Gematsu.

More detals of Earth Defence Force 4 have escaped Japan, as translated by Gematsu. Visit Famitsu to see a pile of accompanying screens which detail the Ranger and Wing Diver Classes, and show off a few enemies and bits of technology. EDF 4 will have support for large numbers of players in multiplayer battles, is due in 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and is set eight years after the events of EDF3 – note that Insect Armageddon, the most recent western release, is a spin-off.

A few more slim details have emerged regarding Earth Defence Force 4, first teased back in July.

A $40 collector’s edition for Adventure Time has turned up on GameStop, sporting a sword-shaped stylus, poster, art book and steelbook packagaing. Naturally you’re all over that, and thankfully, the retailer told Joystiq the package isn’t exclusive to GameStop, so check with your local store before accepting the $30 standard edition. D3 has released a teaser website for Earth Defense Force 4, and while there isn’t much information posted on the site at present, just know it’s coming. Hopefully, platforms and regions other than Japan will be announced soon. Until then, you can always import Earth Defense Force 3 Portable for Vita this September after it releases in Japan.

If you’re au fait with the Earth Defence Force series beyond last year’s jolly good Insect Armageddon, you’ll be delighted to learn that Palewing, a jetpack-clad arse kicker from the second game, makes a return on Vita.
