Plants vs Zombies creator laid off from PopCap – report
Plants vs. Zombies creator George Fan is one of the employees at PopCap who have been laid-off by the company, according to a blog post on 1UP. However, Shack notes Fan wasn’t involved with Plants vs Zombies 2. New broke yesterday that the EA-owned studio had made a number of cuts at its Seattle headquarters and its Dublin location and the later is also being evaluated to see if things can be improved “without having to close the operation.”

PopCap and Wooga pull titles off Google +
PopCap and Wooga have pulled titles off Google+, less than a year after games launched on the social service. Wooga plans to pull all three titles Bubble Island, Diamond Dash and Monster World, by July 1. PopCap’s only title on the service, Bejeweled Blitz, will be pulled as early as next week. Both firms are pulling the titles due to the lack of support for the social networking service as compared to Facebook. Solitaire Blitz marathon to raise funds for charity:water, set records
Two keen PopCap fans will play Solitaire Blitz for 30 hours straight in an attempt to secure a Guinness World Record. The casual developer has gone all out in support of the attempt, organising a donation hub with all proceeds to charity:water. The marathon kicks off on June 26. Bejeweled 3 heading to PSN today
Popcap’s confirmed on the US PS Blog the PS3 version of Bejeweled 3 will release on the US PS Store later today. The game will come with eight gameplay modes – including four secret modes – as well as 20 badges and 12 trophies. No price is mentioned, though.

Popcap to launch Zuma’s Revenge this summer on XBLA
Popcap’s announced it’ll release an Xbox Live Arcade version of Zuma’s Revenge this summer. Globally supported in in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, it’ll feature Boss Rush and Weekly Challenge and a new player progression system for 800 MS points.

Solitaire Blitz joins PopCap’s Facebook line-up in March
PopCap’s next game is a Facebook-only affair, according to IndustryGamers. Solitaire Blitz joins the casual developer’s other social network efforts, Bejeweled Blitz and Zuma Blitz, in March. A social version of Solitaire seems like an oxymoron, but PopCap has promised to work its magic on the classic single-player card game. Expect a small-scale beta soon, and see a trailer through the break.

Plants vs Zombies’ Crazy Dave releases hip hop song for charity
You might remember this video from way back in September. PopCap originally released this video during TGS for no apparent reason at all. Today we’re getting word that PopCap has made the song available for download on iTunes with all of the profits going to charity.
The charity involved is called Concern Worldwide and works to benefit some of the poorest places on Earth. If you’ve got £0.79/$0.99 to spare then head on over to iTunes to pick up a copy for a good cause. The music video is embedded after the break.

PopCap launches freemium Bejeweled and Blitz games on iOS devices
PopCap plans to release two Bejeweled games for iOS, which will retire the current version of Bejeweled 2 + Blitz in order to switch over to a new freemium F2P model, which recently launched on portable Apple systems. Blitz contains the same 60-second gameplay as the previous version, and includes Facebook integration and a new user-interface for the Retina display screen. Coins will act as the currency behind the F2P version, and players will be able to unlock additional coins using The Daily Spin mode once per day. Bejeweled will be re-released with HD graphics and retina display support with the following three game modes: Classic, Zen, and Diamond Mine. Thanks, Shack.

Amazon adds more partners to its App Store for Kindle Fire launch
Amazon has announced Facebook, Netflix, Pandora, Twitter, are coming to Amazon’s AppStore, along with EA, Gameloft, PopCap, and Zynga all for the launch of Kindle Fire. Rovio is as well although that was pretty much a given, due to the Angry Birds logo which popped up on screen during the device’s unveiling. The first generation of Kindle Fire won’t have access to Google’s Android Marketplace, this news should be a bit of a reielf to early adopters. Games already announced for the tablet include: Airport Mania, Battleheart, Cut the Rope, Doodle Fit, Doodle Jump, Fruit Ninja, and Jenga. Thanks, IndustryGamers.
