Over on the Far Cry blog, Ubisoft has announced that it will release a mod pack bringing the world of Far Cry 3 to Minecraft come October 26. The pack apparently includes modifications to “environments, weapons and tools”, “key Far Cry 3 locations and characters, including Vaas, Jason and Citra” and over 50 easter eggs to uncover. The announcement was accompanied by a series of playful mock-up images, but Ubisoft has confirmed the mod pack is very real. Far Cry 3 is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late November, or early December in the US.

Heads up, Battlefield 3 fans: DICE doesn’t look kindly on you bringing mods to matches. Commenting on a mod which adds a splash of colour to the military shooter, DICE’s Gustav Halling said using “those hacks” could result in permanent bans, because it’s a “proper cheat”, not a brightness mod. Best to know this now and not after you find yourself on the end of the hammer.

NeoGAF member Durante has been toiling away since Dark Souls’ overnight release on PC and has released a mod unlocking the action RPG’s fixed 720p resolution. The completely unofficial fix is not guaranteed in any way, so you should probably only grab it if you know what you’re doing. The mod hasn’t been tested over the course of the whole game, and it seems that work is ongoing – it’s already been updated since its release a few hours ago, to remove a blur effect.

Kotaku‘s flagged a fan project to restore content cut from Fallout: New Vegas before launch. Read a description of the individual bits and piece here. All the uncovered content has been gathered up, turned into mods, and stored here, so you can grab it all and see the whole game-as-it-was if you feel like it. Obsidian’s Fallout 3 spin-off is one of those divisive titles, so if you didn’t feel the love the first time through, maybe this restored version will charm you at last.

The milestones just keep coming for ArmA 2 mod Day Z. The zombie survival experience has topped 1 million unique users, according to stats on the home page. Over 180,000 players have logged in over the last 24 hours, and of the 22.6 million characters which have ventured into the world, only 797,742 are alive, with a life expectancy of 49 minutes Hardcore. While we’re talking statistics, ArmA 2 is still ranked second on Steam’s charts, with only Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC ahead of it, in all likelihood due to the mod’s growing popularity.
