CD Projekt had a bit of an accident this week and briefly released REDkit, its modding suite for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The friendly developer has advised that any of those lucky enough to snaffle the early release are welcome to go ahead and use them; the official release is almost upon us, thankfully. “Please give us just a little bit more time (it’s almost here!)” community manager Marcin Momot said.

The DayZ ArmA 2 mod has been updated with the usual pile of new content and fixes. Interesting highlights include resuable arrows; breakable arrows; and quivers. Alarmingly, zombies will now be slowly drawn towards players even when they’re not altered. Full patch notes are available on the mod’s forum. The mod version of DayZ was recently added to Steam; it’s frequently updated with new content, something Bohemia Interactive hopes to continue with the standalone release.

Bethesda has announced that the RAGE tool kit will be released through Steam today. We looked on the site, and it doesn’t seem to be there just yet, so check back later on. The tool kit contains the “same tools used to create RAGE and it’s DLC, The Scorchers and provides everything you need to get started with modding the first-ever idTech 5 title.” The download is over 35GB, and before you download it, you may wish to read the id documents posted on the Bethesda Blog which in part discuss what “technically sophisticated and adventurous” modders will need to know beforehand. The kit will be available through the Tools section of Steam.

ArmA 2 mod DayZ has been patched, adding a ton of new features. There’s a collection of weapons and food, two new vehicles and the ability to catch viruses and flip ATVs (good luck with that, Dan), for example. Zombies can now damage your vehicle, pull you from it, or even spawn inside unoccupied vehicles, and will be attracted by the sound of trees being felled. Plus a huge pile of fixes; full patch notes are available on the DayZ forums, where incidentally you’ll also find plenty of people chatting about the first DayZ standalone release footage.

RAGE fans have been waiting for mod tools since the multi-platform shooter launched a year ago, but a tweet from id’s John Carmack suggests they’re still in the works.
