Valve’s Doug Lombrdi has downplayed rumours that the company’s Steam machine rigs will not ship as Nvidia exclusive rigs. AMD and Intel versions of the SteamOS-powered hardware are also set to be revealed.

AMD are set to drop the prices of their high end graphics cards in Australia, including the HD 7990, HD 7970 and HD 7950. Additionally, they’ll be rolling the Orbtastic Saints Row 4 into their “Never settle” program, which essentially means it’ll be bundled in with the GPUs above. Prices after the break.

AMD has quite a stake in the upcoming next-gen consoles. It’s manufacturing the CPU/GPU for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Their competitor Nvidia has been critical of consoles lately, stating that new mobile devices will out-perform current-gen consoles and that financially the new consoles weren’t worth their time. AMD disagrees.

AMD has begun teasing what seems to be a new rendering technology called TressFX, which will be revealed on February 26. The name and the splash art suggest something to do with hair, but AMD is calling it “a new frontier of realism in PC gaming” so it’s likely to be something with broader application. I expect a next-generation middle-ware which can be licensed by third-parties, like Nvdia’s PhysX.
