Microsoft financials: Q4 game division up 30%, full year 48%

Microsoft has announced its financial result for Q4 and fiscal year 2011, both of which ended on June 30. The report finds the firm’s Entertainment & Devices Division showing growth for both Q4 and FY11, thanks to sales of Xbox 360, Kinect, and Xbox Live.

After a strong 2010, Microsoft’s been eerily silent about what’s next for its old-but-not-over-the-hill box. Or at least, that’s been the case as far as games go. Microsoft files opposition with USPTO over Apple’s App Store trademark application

Microsoft as filed a motion for summary judgment with the US Patent and Trademark Office over Apple’s application to trademark the term “App Store”. According to the filing, Microsoft believes App Store is considered a generic term and competitors other than Apple should have free rein to use it.
