EA lays-off internal analysis and reviews team
A source close to Game Informer, and a number of various tweets, have confirmed another round of lay-offs at EA. Those cut worked at the company’s internal analysis and reviews team. The team was responsible for studying Metacritic trends and providing “critical response before titles get in the hands of journalists,” according to GI. It’s unknown how many people were let go but according to Polygon the number was less than 20 employees.

Another Retro Studios staff member joins Armature Studio
Donkey Kong Country Returns designer Tom Ivey has joined Armature, a company founded by former Retro Studios staff members. According to Ivey’s LinkedIn page, he left Retro Studios after 9 years in March 2013. The studio is working on Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate at the moment, and is slated for release on 3DS later this year alongside the console version. Thanks, Nintendo Life.

Square Enix’s US president and CEO Mike Fischer has left the company
Square Enix’s US president and CEO Mike Fischer has left the company, according to a report on Polygon. Fischer joined the company in 2010, and according to the report, he is now vice president of digital video and music at Amazon Japan. Prior to his stint at Square, Fischer worked for Microsoft, SEGA and Namco Bandai. He told Polygon he left Square on good terms. “We can confirm that Mike Fischer is no longer with Square Enix,” said the company in a statement. “We’d like to thank Mike for all of his efforts and contributions to the company and to its employees.” The firm’s president Yoichi Wada left earlier this year.

Glu Mobile has laid-off around 68 staff members
Mobile publisher Glu Mobile has laid-off around 68 staff members as it moves to a games-as-a-service business model. Those affected include Griptonite Games in Kirkland, San Francisco and Beijing. Glu closed its Brazil office last year. “We believe concentrating resources on fewer titles, with a greater centralized support infrastructure will accelerate revenue growth in Q4 2013 and beyond,” CEO Niccolo de Masi told IGN. “A reduction in force was commenced today to promote talent density throughout the studio, as well as fund over 80 new [games as a service] colleagues.” Thanks GI International.
