If you’ve not heard of it, SpeedRunners is a four player 2D competitive platformer with the design sensibilities of Super Smash Bros. Fast rounds, madcap chaos, an equal measure of skill and luck. While the game is currently available for $10 or seven pounds on Steam’s Early Access, its developer tinyBuild has announced the full game will release for free. Read why below the jump.

After thanking us for our support, Nintendo has announced that it has suspended the Spotpass feature of its 3DS messaging application Swapnote (Nintendo Letter Box) due to the company discovering that some people have been “exchanging their friend codes on Internet Bulletin Boards” and then using the service to “exchange offensive material”. While the announcement doesn’t specify what the offensive content is, it heavily implies that it’s photographic in nature. This suspension includes all regions and Nintendo doesn’t have an ETA for the service’s return yet.

Twitch’s streamers and their viewers have raised more than $8 million dollars for various charities over the years, as part of events like Desert Bus for Hope, Speed Demos Archive’s Charity Marathons and Extra Life’s marathons. Twitch said this amount could increase exponentially with this year’s Extra Life marathon, which is due to start this weekend. Twitch says more than 4,500 broadcasters have already signed up to stream as part of the weekend.

LEAK: Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls test client datamined, reveals Adventure Mode, Clan/Ladder System and 100+ new quests
The folks over at DiabloFans have datamined just about everything you could imagine out of one of Blizzard’s internal testing versions of the upcoming Diablo 3 expansion, Reaper of Souls. Some of the features, all of which are subject to change include a ladder and guild system, an adventure mode with bounties, ‘Devil’s Hand’ and ‘Loot Runs’. There will also be trial mode as well as a hundred new quests spanning across the new Act 5 and existing acts.

In order to capture video from the PS3, you either had to plug in a capture card to its AV port, or illegally strip the HDCP copy protection out of its HDMI signal. Well, the PlayStation 4 doesn’t have an AV port, so it seems like for the moment it might be impossible to legally obtain PS4 gameplay footage to upload to Youtube. In response to this potential problem, Sony’s president has responded ambiguously on Twitter, so check that out after the jump.

Julie Uhrman, the CEO and Founder of the Ouya has defended the Free the Games fund in face of criticism that the idea was “foolish, crazy and naive”. Although she doesn’t explicitly mention it, her blog post comes as a response to the first two successful Kickstarters involved in the program, one of which had its funding suspended by Kickstarter and another which generated $171,000 from only 183 backers.

The Texas Film Commission is set to expand its economic incentive program for games. The Entertainment Software Association has announced that the state is increasing its top tier base percentage rate to 20%, up from 15 and lowered the threshold from $5 million to $3.5 million.

Kevin Kanai Griffith, an artist working on Diablo 3, has been battling a rare cancer called Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma for more than a year now and non-profit Gamers for Good is lending a helping hand. The organisation is compiling an artbook of fan-art from Kevin’s favourite games, including Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and Super Metroid to help him pay for his increasingly expensive health care.

Sony Pictures has registered 18 domains this week for “Console War movie” in various forms. The domains, dug up by Fubsible, range from TheConsoleWarmovie.com to consolewar.net and everywhere in between, and all were registered on August 23. Sony Pictures is the television and film production/distribution unit of Sony, and none of the registrations were filed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Fusible notes this could be a marketing campaign for PS4, but at this point, the purpose of the domains are anyone’s guess as there are no webpages attributed to any as of yet.
